What is the ATTC Network's Role in Workforce Development?

For the Addiction Technology Transfer Center (ATTC) Network, workforce development remains a top priority. We are improving addiction treatment by strengthening the knowledge, skills and attitudes of substance abuse treatment practitioners. The Network is committed to improving the competency of current and future practitioners primarily by creating and expanding continuing education and university coursework, developing academic programs, increasing clinical placements and setting educational standards. Additionally, the Network advocates for and carries out initiatives enhancing the addiction treatment profession and making it attractive to today’s best and brightest professionals.

The ATTC Network undertakes a broad range of initiatives in response to emerging needs and issues in the treatment field. The Network is funded by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) to upgrade the skills of practitioners and other health professionals and to disseminate the latest science to the treatment community. We create a multitude of timely products and services relevant to the many disciplines represented by the addiction treatment workforce.

The National Office leads the Network in implementing national initiatives and concurrently supports and promotes individual regional efforts. Together the Network takes a unified approach in delivering cutting-edge knowledge and skills which develop a powerful workforce . . . a workforce having the potential to transform individual lives.
