SAPC Lecture Series: Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) in an Integrated Substance Use Disorder System
Pacific Southwest ATTC

Event Type: Educational Event
What: This lecture will cover several aspects of the MAT approach, and give participants an insight on how effective this treatment can be in a variety of treatment settings. The first part of this lecture will provide a general overview of Medication Assisted Treatment and how it can be used to address the opioid epidemic in Los Angeles County and across the state. A review of the pharmacology of specific medications used to treat opioid addiction, and the efficacy of these medications will also be discussed. The second part of the lecture will give participants a better understanding of the financing of Medication Assisted Treatment. Given the various Medi-Cal carve outs and the fact that MAT availability also depends on the Substance Use Disorder level of care in which it is provided, the funding and availability of MAT is complex and can be difficult to understand.
