Explore. Learn. Find.

What do labor organizer Mother Jones, political leader Mahatma Gandhi and rapper KRS-One have in common?  They all believed in lifelong learning.

“Sit down and read. Educate yourself for the coming conflicts.”
- Mother Jones

“Live as if your were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever.”
- Gandhi

“Just like I told you, you must learn.”
- KRS-One (Boogie Down Productions)

Learning is a personal process - from the way a person takes in new information, to the way she remembers it and is, or is not, changed by it.

An individual can optimize his learning experience by understanding his particular learning style.  Are you a visual learner? Do you show a preference for auditory input?  Are you better able to pick up new skills by actively trying them out?

Once you are aware of your favored style, use that knowledge to your advantage.

  • If you are a visual learner wrestling with a new concept, draw pictures to organize the information.
  • If you are an auditory learner reading a difficult passage, read out loud to hear the words rather than just seeing them.
  • If you prefer the kinesthetic style, write and re-write notes on a particular subject in order to remember and understand them better.
