What is the NH&LATTC Professional Learning Community?

Operational definition: 

A bridging process between science and practice, in which a group of individuals with shared values and common purpose gather for knowledge and skills acquisition on cultural elements for treating Hispanic and Latino populations in need of substance abuse treatment.

How is a Professional Learning Community beneficial for behavioral health professionals?

A Professional Learning Community can be beneficial in many ways. Some of the ways in which a PLC can assist behavioral health professionals are listed below:

  • Assist in moving forward with cultural initiatives related to the Hispanic and Latino community.
  • There is an advantage when collaborating with other agencies as your organization is more prepared to serve Hispanics and Latinos.
  • Grants are geared toward serving populations that are disenfranchised and historically not prioritized
  • The increased probability of complying with federal mandates
  • Training opportunities for a workforce in need of outreach and engagement skills with the Hispanic and Latino population.
  • Technical assistance available for organizations related to training, cultural competence, development of cultural competency plans, etc.
