Announcing the Re-Designed and Expanded
Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health
Co-Occurring Disorders Website
Your one-stop resource for information on the Co-Occurring Disorder Project, offering training and technical assistance to the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health Staff and to all providers serving clients with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders.
Given the high prevalence of substance use disorders among consumers being treated with mental health problems is it critical that providers feel confident in screening and intervening with consumers who are using substances. Two trainings have been developed that will help providers develop concrete tools for substance use screening and intervention.
Foundations of Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT)
The self-paced, web-based course provides an introduction to SBIRT, including the rationale for and efficacy of implementation in various settings. This course can help to inform interested professionals about the importance of incorporating SBIRT activities into substance use disorder prevention and treatment systems.
Substance Use Screening and Brief Intervention for Older Adults
Older adults have unique environmental, social and medical needs that are not well addressed in standardized mental health and substance use screening and treatment models. This training will provide an understanding of the primary substance use issues facing older adults and how to intervene with them to provide them better, more comprehensive care.
