Traditionally, services for women have been single-focused; addressing one specific area. This has resulted in fragmented services for women with substance use disorders who have had experiences of trauma/violence. Research indicates a high prevalence of trauma/violence experiences among women with substance use disorders and higher rates of co-occurring disorders. Gender-responsive treatments that recognize, address and work with women’s provide a safer, more complete environment for recovery
