NAADAC-The Association for Addiction Professionals is the largest membership organization serving addiction counselors, educators and other addiction-focused health care professionals, who specialize in addiction prevention, treatment and education.


The ATTC National Office maintains a Certification Info database on a variety of state, national, and some international bodies that offer licensing and credentialing for drug and alcohol counselors.


Addiction Counselor Competencies: The Knowledge, Skills, and Attitudes of Professional Practice, CSAT's Technical Assistance Publication (TAP) #21. This CSAT publication, created in cooperation with the ATTC Network, highlights the 123 competencies that all substance abuse treatment counselors should master to do their work effectively. It has become a benchmark for the field and is used to develop and evaluate addiction counseling curricula, advise students, and assess counseling proficiencies.


Directory of Addiction Studies Programs – The ATTC National Office maintains a list of institutions that offer a certificate, bachelor, master and/or doctoral program in substance use disorders as well as those that offer a concentration, specialty or minor in the addiction field.


The International Certification & Reciprocity Consortium/Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse, Inc. (IC&RC) sets international standards of practice in addiction counseling, prevention and clinical supervision through testing and credentialing of addiction professionals.


International Coalition for Addiction Studies Education (INCASE) – INCASE provides a global forum for the examination and debate of issues concerning post secondary education in addiction studies to enhance the quality of training and education in the field, and to disseminate professional knowledge and share ideas regarding addiction studies. They also work to develop standards and implement an accreditation process for addictions studies programs within and between nations, states and provinces.
