Celebrate Juneteenth with #MoveForEquity2022

Publication Date: Jun 08, 2022

Juneteenth is a holiday celebrated every year on June 19th to honor and commemorate the end of slavery in the United States. Celebrations have been held on this date since June 19, 1865 when enslaved people in Galveston, Texas finally received news of the Emancipation Proclamation. Although Juneteenth is the oldest celebration of its kind, the date was not observed as a federal holiday until President Biden designated it as such in 2021.

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) invite you to join them in a substance-free celebration of Juneteenth on Monday, June 20, 2022. The event is called MOVE FOR EQUITY, and it encourages participants to walk, stretch, dance, or otherwise engage in any kind of fitness activity for 19 minutes. Event registration is free, and NIH will be hosting a virtual session where everyone in attendance can celebrate and move for equity together.
