The New England ATTC in partnership with Community Counseling of Bristol County is providing a targeted technical assistance workshop titled "SAMHSA’s National Outcome Measures Service Tool: Collecting Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity, and Race/Ethnicity Demographic Information in a Culturally Humble and Sensitive Approach" on 4/13/23 from 2:00pm-3:15pm with subject matter expert David Zelaya. This introductory overview of the evolving language regarding sexual orientation, gender identity, and race/ethnicity helps to contextualize the demographic questions being utilized in SAMHSA's NOMS tool. Participants will be introduced to the concepts of reflexivity, cultural humility, and cultural competency in efforts to collect the data in a sensitive and respectful way. This workshop will help to increase the cultural competency of the behavioral health workforce providing substance use and addiction services.
