Cultural Elements in Treating Hispanic and Latinx Populations

Description: According to a recent SAMHSA publication, COVID-19 has disproportionately impacted communities of color highlighting the substantially decreased access to mental health and substance use disorder treatment for Latinx populations. Engaging these communities encourage practitioners to build capacity to provide culturally responsive care which is essential to retention. This interactive (90 minute) webinar will discuss Hispanic cultural characteristics that addiction professionals can learn to identify and reframe to support recovery for Latinx persons in care. Discussions will include how culture influences Hispanic and Latino behavior change, cultural elements defined and case examples to consider for treatment processes, and promising practices that align with evidence based strategies that support recovery and wellness for Hispanic and Latinx communities.

Credits: This training meets the requirements for 1.5 renewal hours (CASAC, CPP, CPS) and 1.5 initial hours (CPP, CPS) through New York State’s Office of Addiction Services and Supports (NYS OASAS). Participants must attend the session in its entirety to receive a certificate of completion.
