Cultural Elements in Treating Hispanics and Latinx Populations - video conference via Zoom

DescriptionAccording to a recent SAMHSA publication, COVID-19 has disproportionately impacted communities of color highlighting the substantially decreased access to mental health and substance use disorder treatment services for Latinx populations. Engaging these communities encourage practitioners to build capacity to provide culturally responsiveness which is essential to engagement and retention.

This interactive webinar will discuss Hispanic cultural characteristics that practitioners can learn to identify and reframe to support recovery for Latinx persons in care. Discussions will include how environmental (poverty, pandemic, racial unrest, etc.) stressors can affect Hispanic and Latino mental health and lead and exacerbate substance use. Content will review how cultural elements may be expressed and interpreted through case examples and will inform on culturally appropriate and trauma informed strategies that align with evidence based practices and support recovery and wellness with Hispanic and Latinx communities.

All participants registering are required to turn on their video cameras and to actively participate in order to receive credit.

Credits: This training meets the requirements for two renewal hours (CASAC, CPP, CPS) and two initial hours (CPP, CPS) through New York State’s Office of Addiction Services and Supports (NYS OASAS). Participants must attend the session in its entirety to receive a certificate of completion.
