Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT), 4-hour (Closed Event)

Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT) is an evidence-based practice that uses a preventive public health approach to identify and intervene with persons whose pattern of use puts them at risk for or are experiencing substance-related health and psychosocial problems. SBIRT is also able to identify those with a high potential for substance use disorders.

This four-hour workshop provides an overview of the SBIRT components as a means of interacting with youth to raise awareness and eliminate the potential harms of substance use. The content includes how to facilitate a substance use screening conducive for youth, a walk-through of the person -centered brief intervention to build motivation, and highlights the essential elements for successful referral for further assessment and potential treatment.
