With the increasing number of deaths related to opioid overdoses, the topic of “harm reduction” has moved to the forefront of discussions on how to reduce that number. The information most addiction and healthcare professionals have about harm reduction is very limited and is very inaccurate.

This virtual presentation is sponsored by the Southeast ATTC Regional Center and will focus on clearing up some of the major misconceptions related to harm reduction and allow participants to increase their knowledge related to how harm reduction is a valuable tool in saving the lives of individuals with opioid use disorder in Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Kentucky, Mississippi, Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina. Treatment providers, peer support communities, and community-based organizations in Region 4 are encouraged to register for free.

Marc Burrows is an addictions counselor and peer-support specialist working in the field of Harm Reduction and Medication-Assisted Treatment in South Carolina.  He is the founder of the non-profit organization Challenges Inc and Program Manager of the office-based opioid treatment program, Carolina Wellness and Recovery of Powdersville, SC.  Marc has created the first syringe services program in South Carolina and is working to expand access to evidence-based interventions to support more effectively those who use drugs.
