Substance Abuse in College Students: Strategies and Empowerment

Substance Abuse in College Students: Strategies and Empowerment

Thursday July 25, 2023 from 11:00am- 12:00pm CT

Presenter: Joy Teles Oliveira, Ph.D.

CEUs are avaliable

As substance use is regularly related to students’ decision to drop out of school (Arria et al., 2013; Thomas et al., 2021), there is an evident need to look closely at strategies for college students' care and empowerment. This presentation will focus on protective factors and approaches to working with college students struggling with substance use.

Joy Teles Oliveira, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor at UNT Dallas. Dr. Oliveira's research interests include counselor professional identity development, multicultural perspectives in counseling, and culturally responsive practices in counseling.

This webinar is brought to you by the SSW ATTC Educational Consortium member, The University of North Texas at Dallas. This is a part of their Brown Bag Lunch series offering different topics related to substance use and mental health for providers and students in their community.
