As substance use is regularly related to students’ decision to drop out of school (Arria et al., 2013; Thomas et al., 2021), there is an evident need to look closely at strategies for college students' care and empowerment. This presentation will focus on protective factors and approaches to working with college students struggling with substance use.
Joy Teles Oliveira, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor at UNT Dallas. Dr. Oliveira's research interests include counselor professional identity development, multicultural perspectives in counseling, and culturally responsive practices in counseling.
