According to the National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH) twenty-one million people in 2022 reported experiencing life-changing transformations and consider themselves in recovery or recovered. National Recovery Month occurs annually in September to raise awareness that people with substance use related issues can improve their lives and health by accessing harm reduction, treatment, and recovery support services. Recovery Month honors the progress of individuals who use substances, the families/loved ones that support them, and the communities who make a variety of services available. This observance promotes the positive messages that behavioral health is vital to overall well-being, prevention is effective, treatment works, and recovery is possible.
Celebrate National Recovery Month with SAMHSA's official toolkit. The toolkit contains key messaging and weekly themes, social media shareables, stickers, virtual backgrounds, email signatures, and hashtag guidance.
