Patricia Juarez Master of Sciences in Psychology and Member of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT)

Joined the Latino Alcohol Health Disparities Research and Training Center (LAHDR), at the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP), on January 2015 as Training Director, to provide trainings and supervision in two evidence-based interventions: Motivational Interviewing (MI) and Brief Motivational Interventions (BMI), to reduce the public health impact of heavy drinking and other health-related behaviors in the El Paso-Juarez border region. Patricia has been an active member of the international Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT), after the Training for New Trainers (TNT) in Italy in 2001 (http://www.motivationalinterviewing.org), and she continues to be listed as the only MINT member from Mexico, as well as being part of the few trainers who can offer trainings in both Spanish and English.

Areas of Expertise

Patricia served as one of three co-trainers for the 2018 annual MINT Training for New Trainers, which served as further recognition and enhancement of her levels of expertise in the training and supervision of Motivational Interviewing and other related interventions.

She is part of the first group of MINT trainers to be offered certification as MI trainer, for which she has served as coder/coach for the MINT Trainer Certification project, from 2015 to 2018. In October of 2016, she co-trained at a National Motivational Interviewing Training in Havana, Cuba, which was pioneer MINT-sponsored training effort to share this intervention with this country.
