  The New England ATTC, in partnership with the Vermont Department of Health, Division of Substance Use Programs, is providing a two-day intensive TA series in Foundations of Clinical Supervision on 3/30/23 and 3/31/23 with subject matter experts Megan Kiernan and Maggie Hooker. In this series, participants will acquire fundamental clinical supervision knowledge, while gaining familiarity with addiction counseling competencies, the role of the clinical supervisor, and strategies for clinically supervising addiction counselors. To be eligible to receive TA, participants must complete a pre-event 14-hour asynchronous online course through the Addiction Technology Transfer Center. This 8-hour self-paced course is based on the transdisciplinary foundations of the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration's Technical Assistance Publication #21, Addiction Counseling Competencies. Designed to provide an overview of the addictive process and basic knowledge, attitudes, and skills utilized by professionals from a variety of backgrounds who work with clients experiencing substance use disorders.

The 1.5 hour self-paced, online course is designed to introduce key terms, topics, and resources essential to SBIRT. SBIRT is a comprehensive, integrated, public health approach to the delivery of early intervention and treatment for persons with substance use disorders, as well as those who are risk of developing these disorders. The course provides an introduction to SBIRT, including the rationale for and efficacy of implementation in various settings.

The Clinical Supervision Foundations course was developed by the Addiction Technology Transfer Center (ATTC) Network as an introduction to the essential elements of supervisory practice. In response to the need for an educational program which helps supervisors qualify for credentialing, the course presents participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to assure quality of care and promote the professional development of addictions counselors. Knowing it is difficult for supervisors to be away from the worksite for extended periods, the course was intentionally designed utilizing a combination of online, face-to-face, and worksite formats to make up this 30-hour course. The 14-hour, ten module online course is self-paced, and can be taken as a standalone. It is intended to introduce basic concepts and resources, while providing a conceptual overview of the work of a clinical supervisor. The face-to-face segment, which requires the online course as a prerequisite, delves further into some of the more practical aspects of supervision and builds in opportunities for skills practice, offering a worksite aspect giving supervisors an opportunity to self-assess their knowledge and skills, as well as create a plan for continuing their professional development.

  Motivational Interviewing Foundations   Wednesday, May 11, 2022 2:00pm-5:00pm MST   Please join ASU School of Social Work for Motivational Interviewing Foundations webinar course.
