The majority of clients with SUDs have histories of Trauma. This workshop covers the diagnostic criteria for 5 types of traumatic stress disorders common among clients with SUDs and intervention strategies including: Acute Stress Disorder, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Complex Trauma, Historical Trauma and 24-7-365 Terror. Other topics covered include: The 3 generations of trauma treatment; Evidence based approaches to trauma
treatment with clients with SUDs; 7 steps to developing a trauma informed system of care; The therapeutic benefits of humor and other strategies counselor can use to avoid secondary trauma.
