Ethics for Prevention: A Basic Course, Part 1

COURSE DESCRIPTION

This two-part course meets the certification requirement for prevention ethics set by the International Certification and Reciprocity Consortium (IC&RC). Participants must attend all of the sessions of the course to fulfill the six-hour prevention ethics requirement.  The course will introduce ethics in general and explain the necessity for a code of ethics specific to prevention in behavioral health care. The six principles in the Prevention Code of Ethics will be explained in detail. Participants will also apply an ethical decision-making process to dilemmas that prevention professionals may experience.

This training has a limited number of seats.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

  • Define ethics and related terms
  • Describe the six principles in the Prevention Code of Ethics tobacco, and marijuana product use
  • Use an ethical decision-making process to apply the Prevention Code of Ethics to case studies specific to prevention work

PRESENTER

Sandra Puerini headshotSandra Puerini Del Sesto, M.Ed., ACPS

Sandra has worked more than 35 years in prevention, though her work spans the continuum of care from prevention to treatment to recovery. In her home state of Rhode Island, Sandra was the founder and past executive director of Initiatives for Human Development, the only statewide prevention agency. She is a member of the faculty and board of directors for the New England School of Addiction Studies. She has worked extensively at both the community and state levels developing strategic prevention/behavioral health care plans. Sandra is a member of the Board of Directors of the International Certification and Reciprocity Consortium (IC&RC) and is the co-chair of its Prevention Committee.
