Hepatitis C (HCV) is the leading cause of liver disease and more half of persons infected with HCV are unaware of their status. According to recent data, as opioid use increased, so have HCV infections. The CDC has identified anyone injecting drugs, past and/or presently, to be at high risk for HCV, along with persons born between 1945 and 1965.
Facilitating pathways to recovery for persons with substance use disorders, particularly those who inject drugs, (IDU), warrant support for related health consequences of use and potential viral hepatitis infections.
This workshop is designed to inform behavioral and health care professionals on current HCV information including risk groups, how to counsel and promote HCV screening and testing, support and link infected persons to HCV health care, and brief review of current therapies.
