Region 3 ASAM Training of Trainers (ToT) - Part 1, 05/23/22

Description:

The ASAM criteria fosters outcome-driven and results-based care in the treatment of individuals who have a substance use and/or co-occurring diagnosis. ASAM criteria provide separate placement criteria for adolescents and adults to create comprehensive and person-centered treatment plans to use in service planning and treatment across all services and levels of care.

Structure:

During the first virtual session on May 23rd, all participants will be exposed to the training curriculum and will have the opportunity to discuss challenging training issues that may arise during ASAM Criteria workshops. During the second session (June 6th OR June 13th), participants will prepare for and practice teaching portions of the curriculum and receive feedback from the master trainer and other ToT participants.

In order to provide ample time for participant teaching presentations, the second session of the TOT will be divided into two group cohorts (make your selection below in the registration form).

At the conclusion of the ToT, participants will be able to:

  1. Explain how the six dimensions of multidimensional patient assessment inform initial level of care recommendation and foster person-centered treatment planning.
  2. Teach providers how to use progress notes to demonstrate movement toward attachment of treatment plan goals.
  3. Understand and utilize continued service, transfer and discharge criteria to monitor client’s progress throughout the continuum of care.

Participant Requirements:

  1. Must be an experienced trainer (e.g., minimum of 2-3 years of general training experience)
  2. Should have a baseline level of knowledge in utilizing the ASAM criteria 3rd edition for patient placement.
  3. Completed prior ASAM training.
  4. Training participants MUST have a copy of The ASAM Criteria, 3rd edition. If you do not already have a copy, please purchase the ASAM Criteria, 3rd edition prior to the first day of training.
