Trauma-informed care is a practice framework that recognizes the presence of trauma and its impact, and how to effectively minimize its effects without causing additional trauma. Often, what is less recognized is the impact that indirect trauma can have on providers. Health care settings are uniquely positioned to deliver services and create supportive environments through a trauma informed lens, for both patients and the providers working there.
This interactive course will review fundamentals of trauma and trauma-informed care, how to incorporate trauma-informed language for support of patients and colleagues, strategies to incorporate in practice and in the health care setting, and the importance of self-care.
