This training explores the impact that addictive disorders have on the structure and function of families and the important role that the family plays in treatment of addictive disorders and HIV. Family dynamics, such as co-dependency, are examined and critically discussed. Attendees learn appropriate ways to educate families about how to respond to addiction and how to provide familiar support. The role of social networks in recovery is also explored.
