Lance Johnson, BALance has served in management for 30 years and overseen a variety of programs, including non-profit social services management, family support services, and the development of youth homes, and is a deeply involved administrator and an active team member on collaborative projects, including his oversight on the completion of a substance use treatment center, a day shelter, and an emergency residential group home, all in the Norton Sound region. While his university studies did not immediately lead to a career in the social service field, his experience provides him with an understanding of the work, staff, and people served. He prioritizes advocacy through collaborations and sometimes tough conversations with legislators to obtain more support for substance use services, reduced administrative burden, suicide prevention, and funding for integrated, localized higher levels of care. In his off hours, Lance hosts a radio show and plays in a group that is Nome Alaska's “okayest” band.
