Surrounded by likeminded behavioral health professionals, the American Indian and Alaska Native Leadership Academy Cohort III participants met at the Viejo Tribal-owned U.S. Grant Hotel in downtown San Diego, CA. Dr. Anthony Pico delivered an inspiring keynote address to the graduates and other guests.
Mentees delivered end of year project presentations, virtually or in person. Examples included Melanie Hazle’s presentation on “Implementing Trauma Informed Care in Primary Care Settings” and Lynn Bigboy’s talk about the “Mashkizibii Mentoring Project – Bad River Survival Revival Series”. Presenters commonly emphasized the importance of upholding a strong focus on culture while working in behavioral health in Native communities. The Leadership Academy congratulates an amazing group of earnest, hardworking and talented people, and wishes all participants the best in their future endeavors.
