There are thousands of people in recovery from addiction unaware of their civil rights under the ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act). The ADA insures that people with addiction to alcohol, and in recovery from opioids and other drugs have the same rights and opportunities as everyone else. 

The New England ADA Center supports the ADA National Network's mission to provide information, guidance and training on how to implement the ADA and “assure equality of opportunity, full participation, independent living, and economic self-sufficiency for individuals with disabilities.” They have created two Fact Sheets to help inform the community:

• The ADA, Addiction and Recovery Fact Sheet provides information regarding the structure of the ADA, the definition of disability, and the ADA's protection of those in recovery. 
• The ADA, Addiction, Recovery and Employment Fact Sheet provides information regarding how the ADA addresses addiction to alcohol, illegal drugs, and the unlawful use of legal drugs in each stage of employment.

They will also be involved in two upcoming webinars to further inform the community about the ADA:

• The Americans with Disabilities Act: SUD and Eliminating Discriminatory Barriers to Treatment and Recovery

• How the ADA Addresses Addiction and Recovery in Employment
