SAMHSA has issued a new advisory on Identification and Management of Mental Health Symptoms and Conditions Associated with Long COVID – Long COVID can have devastating effects on the mental health of those who experience it due to social isolation, financial insecurity, chronic illness (both physical and psychological), caregiver burnout, and grief. Those who have Long COVID need to be properly identified and treated to manage their health and improve their state of well-being. Primary care practitioners are often the first clinicians to treat adults 18 and over who are experiencing Long COVID. Clinicians who treat patients with Long COVID need information to accurately identify the disorder, refer patients to available resources and support to use an interdisciplinary approach to treat patients holistically.

This advisory discusses the epidemiology of mental health symptoms and conditions of Long COVID and provides evidence-based resources for their treatment.
