Mid-America ATTC, in partnership with Truman Medical Center’s Center for Trauma-Informed Innovation (TIC in BH), is piloting an intensive technical assistance (TA) project with Osawatomie State Hospital (OSH) in Kansas. The goal of this project is to work closely with OSH leadership and staff to provide training and actively support a transformation in organizational culture to implement trauma-informed care (TIC) practices in all services.  Over the next year, the TIC in BH team will use the insights they glean from this intensive TA to finalize a TIC TA guide for TTC's and behavioral health providers.The purpose of this document is to provide an overview of the TIC TA guide.

Substance use disorders (SUDs) are highly stigmatized conditions, with stigma hindering and discouraging individuals from seeking treatment services. Not only does stigma exist for individuals with SUDs, but also for individuals who use medications to treat opioid use disorders despite the unparalleled effectiveness of medication-assisted treatment (MAT). Stigma is perpetuated through both expected (families and employers) and unexpected (health care providers) routes. During this webinar, participants will learn about the ways in which stigma undermines treatment opportunities and increases individuals’ shame that can lead to adverse outcomes, including overdose.  

This session will provide an overview of housing models that address housing discrimination and stigma. Additionally, a review of best practices to ensure collaboration with established systems of care to prevent homelessness will be discussed. A discussion of best practices in service integration for marginalized populations. Content regarding housing stigma and discrimination. A review of the range of housing supports to ensure effective collaborations. Presenter: Mike Brose, MSW, is the Chief Empowerment Officer for the Mental Health Association of Oklahoma. He has dedicated his life to the eradication of stigma and discrimination for a person struggling with serious mental illness and substance use disorders. Mental Health Association of Oklahoma owns and manages nearly 1500 units of housing.  

Mat Roosa, LCSW-R, was a founding member of NIATx and has been a NIATx coach for a wide range of projects. He works as a consultant in the quality improvement, organizational development and planning, evidence-based practice implementation, and also serves as a local government planner in behavioral health in New York State. In this interview, Mat gives an overview of NIATx and process improvement in behavioral health.

This guide book is designed for leadership in a trauma-informed care initiative or a ROSC transformation—maybe in an organization, in a whole system, or in a whole community.   A Challenge to Leadership has 8 sections. Each section has a set of “action notes,” which are basically workbook tools.  The Action Notes can be used to start a planning process for a change team or a transformation team.

The Clinical Supervision Foundations course was developed by the Addiction Technology Transfer Center (ATTC) Network as an introduction to the essential elements of supervisory practice. In response to the need for an educational program which helps supervisors qualify for credentialing, the course presents participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to assure quality of care and promote the professional development of addictions counselors. Knowing it is difficult for supervisors to be away from the worksite for extended periods, the course was intentionally designed utilizing a combination of online, face-to-face, and worksite formats to make up this 30-hour course. The 14-hour, ten module online course is self-paced, and can be taken as a standalone. It is intended to introduce basic concepts and resources, while providing a conceptual overview of the work of a clinical supervisor. The face-to-face segment, which requires the online course as a prerequisite, delves further into some of the more practical aspects of supervision and builds in opportunities for skills practice, offering a worksite aspect giving supervisors an opportunity to self-assess their knowledge and skills, as well as create a plan for continuing their professional development.    

The Change Book offers a comprehensive blueprint for change, which will help direct each aspect of the design, development, implementation, evaluation and revision of a technology transfer plan. Factors influencing the success of a technology transfer initiative, effective change strategies, and Principles for successful adoption to occur are addressed.   View PDF or Download Above.
