Addiction is a family disease. Yet mothers are often treated in isolation from their children and partners, having to choose between getting treatment and keeping their families together. One revolutionary program in Compton, California lets women bring them all -- fathers/partners and children of all ages -- to experience the recovery journey together. "Bring Them All" tells the story of family-centered care through the perspectives of clients and staff at SHIELDS for Families.

Lynn Madden, CEO of the APT Foundation, delivered a didactic presentation on how PPW programs can increase engagement of family members. The presentation covers family-focused interventions, creating a family-centered culture, and process improvement strategies to increase family engagement.

Co-occurring disorders (CODs) occur frequently and can significantly impact mother and child. In this webinette, Dr. Cooke will present information on the significance of CODs and their risk factors; discuss the importance of repeat screening, appropriate referral, and coordinated treatment; and share the safety profiles of the various medications available to treatment CODs and how to take in account the risks to mother and child.

In recognition of Recovery Month 2011, this year's essay contest invited individuals who have been supported in their recovery by medications, including methadone or buprenorphine for opioid addiction and acamprosate or naltrexone for alcohol addiction, to share their stories.
