DESCRIPTION The purpose of the webinar is to highlight the importance of general good health and sustained employment, specifically addressing the impact of substance use and related disorders for employees, employers and workforce development programs. The webinar will: Explore the importance of general good health and substance use disorder as a public health concern Address the impact of the national opioid crisis with particular focus on DOL Region 2/HHS Region 3 Provide information about national, state and local resources available to DOL grantees and the general public about substance use disorders and treatment resources   WHO SHOULD ATTEND? This webinar is targeted to Department of Labor Region 2 (DC, DE, MD, PA, VA, WV) Employment and Training Administration Workforce Development Programs, specifically program staff working directly with participants (e.g., case managers, instructors, recruiters, administrators).   PRESENTER Renata J. Henry, MEd is the Executive Director of The Danya Institute in Silver Spring, MD. The Institute manages the Central East’s Addiction Technology Transfer Center (ATTC), Mental Health Technology Transfer Center (MHTTC) and Prevention Technology Transfer Center (PTTC), which provide training and technical assistance to the behavioral, mental health and prevention workforce in HHS Region III. Ms. Henry has more than 35 years of experience in the behavioral health field, serving in clinical and administrative positions in community-based mental health and substance abuse organizations and leadership positions in state and county government. Ms. Henry has provided leadership at a state and national level in various capacities.

The Family Recovery Pathways conference was held in Sioux Falls, SD on May 6-8, 2019, developed by the HHS Region 7 Mid-America Addiction Technology Transfer Center (Mid-America ATTC) and HHS Region 8 Mountain Plains Addiction Technology Transfer Center (Mountain Plains ATTC). This conference also had support from the Region 8 Mountain Plains Prevention Technology Transfer Center (Mountain Plains PTTC) and the ATTC Network Coordinating Office. The goal of the Family Recovery Pathways conference was to bring together professionals who engage with families impacted by substance use disorders to learn best practices in working in the child welfare and substance use disorder system. A total of 275 people representing 20 states attended throughout the three-day conference. Conference presentations featured more than 50 presenters and panelists addressing such topics as Adverse Childhood Experiences, Policy Approaches to Support Family-Centered Care, and Pregnancy and Parenting in the Midst of a Methamphetamine Epidemic. This webinar, sponsored by the Northwest ATTC and the Western States Node of the NIDA CTN, summarized what makes women's treatment for opioid use disorder (OUD) or other substance use disorders unique from men's treatment, and highlighted key issues when providing treatment to pregnant and parenting women with opioid use and other SUDs. This one-day workshop will provide a brief overview of the medical, psychological and behavioral aspects of opiate abuse/dependence. Agonist, partial agonist, antagonist and non-medication assisted therapy will be discussed and include:   a. Deciding factors between medication and non-medication assisted treatment b. Treatment protocols 

Presented on February 27, 2019, this webinar reviewed key factors necessary for effectively treating co-occurring trauma and addiction. Practical suggestions and tools were offered, including content specific to assessment, early intervention, and long-term recovery. Dr. Fitzgerald also made available copies of the comprehensive self-evaluation battery he administers to all his clients, as well as a scoring sheet for providers to use along with it. It discussed our social and cultural factors cause substance misuse in Latinos. Additionally, barriers to services and treatments are discussed, along with strategies on how to increase engagement and use of services.

This slide deck provides a brief overview of the use of videoconferencing to deliver assessment and treatment services to individuals with substance use disorders (SUDs) and mental health conditions. It is designed to be used by behavioral health academic faculty, trainers, and state agency staff members for a variety of audiences. Each slide has notes for the presenter to provide guidance if necessary. References are included on the slides and in the notes. Overview: Methamphetamine is the number 1 drug threat ranked by the Dallas, El Paso, and Houston DEA Field Divisions. Cocaine is ranked the number 2 and number 3 threat by the DEA Field Divisions. Pharmaceuticals, benzodiazepines, hydrocodone, and muscle relaxants remain problematic. Compared to other NDEWS sites, the number of fentanyl items seized and identified is increasing, but the number of cases involving heroin and fentanyl in combination is low, while the number of cases involving fentanyl and other opiates is high. The recent increase in the number of tramadol cases involved with other opiates is also a concern. Heroin in Texas is either black tar heroin or powdered brown heroin (diluted with diphenhydramine or other filler), with some white Mexican/South American heroin seen. Of the top 25 items seized and identified in Texas laboratories reporting to the National Forensic Laboratory Information System (NFLIS), heroin ranks #4, at 5.2% of all items identified, and fentanyl ranks #21 (0.21% of all items identified). Cannabis indicators remain steady, with problems most often seen in the trafficking of decriminalized cannabis products from Colorado through Texas. Synthetic cannabinoid and cathinone poison calls have decreased but recent research by the author looking at treatment admissions and poison center call data has found statistically significant trends over time. The user population has changed from younger males hoping to use a cannabinoid that would not show positive in drug tests to an older population who are more likely to be experiencing homelessness and co-morbid psychological problems.

J. Paul Seale, MD, Certified by the American Boards of Family Medicine and Addiction Medicine, discusses America’s ongoing opioid epidemic. By the end of this one hour program, participants should be able to: 1) identify several key developments in the origin of the opioid epidemic, 2) describe strategic initiatives that are in progress to address the epidemic, and 3) identify specific steps forward that could help address the epidemic.

This webinar defines harm reduction as it is implemented on the policy, population, community and individual levels, discusses its historical roots, and provides a rationale for harm-reduction treatment as a policy and clinical practice to address the opioid epidemic. This presentation by Professor Bronwyn Myers discusses the Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT) training model in application to substance use disorders. Professor Bronwyn Myers is a Chief specialist scientist in the Alcohol Tobacco and Other Drug Use Research Unit at the South African Medical Research Council. Professor Myers also serves as an Expert Technical Assistance Advisor for the South Africa HIV ATTC.

This presentation by Professor Katherine Sorsdahl discusses the Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT) training model with applications in the South African context. Katherine Sorsdahl is a Professor and the Co-Director of the Alan J Flisher Centre for Public Mental Health at the University of Cape Town. She also serves as Expert Curriculum Development Advisor for the South Africa HIV ATTC.
