In this webinar, Steve Woolworth, PhD, Vice President of Treatment and Reentry Services at Pioneer Human Services, shared a brief history of Pioneer Human Services (PHS), one of the nation’s largest social enterprise organizations, accompanied by a summary of the organization’s current service model and the emerging practices that PHS is investing in to address social determinants of health and the criminogenic and clinical risk factors associated with criminal justice recidivism, chronic addiction, and homelessness.

Topics include: definitions and foundations of ethics, principles and problem areas, professional responsibility and counselor considerations. Confidentiality will also be reviewed. There will be case studies, discussion, and information on technology and ethics.

This two-part webinar will review SUD diagnosis criteria, the impact of SUD on the brain and compulsivity factor, as well as specific signs and symptoms for alcohol and opioid use disorders (AUD, OUD). The content will further explain how medicated assisted treatment (MAT) works, why it’s the most effective treatment for OUD and AUD, and will include points for providers to effectively inform clients on how MAT increases a person’s opportunity for access and sustain recovery.

This brochure provides an overview of the South Africa HIV ATTC’s goals, objectives, and popular training topics. The South Africa HIV ATTC is an implementation science centre co-funded by the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. The brochure contains information about how organisations can request training or technical assistance.

Mid-America ATTC has developed a 2018 version of the Hepatitis Awareness Month (May) Info Sheet and Bulletin Insert. Side one has been updated to focus on the dual epidemics of the opioid crisis and hepatitis C virus (HCV). Although the document was initially designed for the faith community, it is appropriate as an educational flyer for much broader audiences. Hispanic adolescents in the US tend to grow up with intersecting Latino and American cultures. Addressing maladaptive behavior with Latino youth encourages a culturally informed approach that integrates an ecological understanding of their world and the factors that influences their behavior. Naloxone temporarily reverses the effects of opioid overdose:slowed or stopped breathing and is typically utilized by first responders. The US surgeon general issued an advisory Thursday, April 5, 2018 recommending that more Americans carry the opioid overdose-reversing drug, naloxone which is sold under the brand name Narcan.

The 2018 Alcohol Awareness Month (April) Faith Community Bulletin Insert has a focus on awareness about risky and harmful levels of alcohol use, information about risks of alcohol use, and strategies for cutting back to low-risk levels of alcohol consumption. It is designed for churches, temples and mosques for their Sunday/Sabbath-day bulletins, newsletters or bulletin boards.

This presentation discusses task shifting as a means of addressing severe mental illness. The presentation details two task shifting models supported by the South Africa HIV ATTC: (1) treatment partner (TP), psychoeducation, and m-health intervention; and (2) community health worker (CHW) mental health training intervention.

Learn through example by watching any or all of six vignettes which illustrate how, through MI, practitioners can help their patients develop intrinsic motivation to be tested for HCV and to feel positive about making a responsible health decision. Each unique scenario features a trained motivational interviewer speaking with a patient at risk for hepatitis C. The videos portray a diverse group of backgrounds and life experiences.
