Billie Jo Smith currently serves as the Program Manager for Addiction Medicine’s Center of Excellence at the University of Pittsburgh’s Western Psychiatric Institute & Clinics (WPIC). Billie Jo has worked in the addiction treatment field for over 10 years, first as a clinician, and later supervisor in various clinical settings including, residential and outpatient treatment facilities. In addition to her role, Ms. Smith is also a trainer and consultant in the behavioral and physical health field throughout the United States. Ms. Smith has conducted all levels of Motivational Interviewing (MI) training, MIA-STEP (Motivational Interviewing Assessment: Supervisory Tools for Enhancing Proficiency), SBIRT (screening, brief intervention and referral to treatment), Technology-Based Clinical Supervision and is a member of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT).
Ms. Smith has conducted all levels (basic, intermediate, and advanced) of Motivational Interviewing (MI) training, MIA-Step (Motivational Interviewing Assessment: Supervisory Tools for Enhancing Proficiency) and is a member of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT). She has also assisted in facilitating practice MI sessions with the medical students at the University of Pittsburgh to enhance engagement with patients. Ms. Smith has trained SBIRT (screening, brief intervention and referral to treatment) throughout the country and has assisted implementing the model with several different programs.
