Course description: The course begins the discussion of helpers and of helping. Students will learn how to recognize and deal with mental illness and will be introduced to issues in mental health. Course topics include units on mental illness, cognitive and other disabilities, substance use disorders (SUD), domestic and intimate partner violence, suicide, ethics, the helper and special problems faced by helpers.
