The purpose of this full-day training is to provide participants with a detailed overview of medications that have been shown to be effective as a component of the treatment of alcohol and opioid use disorders. Topics will include: the context for medication-assisted treatment (positive and negative perceptions), the epidemiology of alcohol and opioid use and dependence (user demographics), a review of the various classes of opioids, an overview of each medication, its indication, to whom it is administered, and how it works, and treatment settings for medication-assisted treatment. Medications will include: acamprosate, disulfiram, naltrexone, methadone, and buprenorphine. The training will conclude with a session on talking to clients about their use of medications, and strategies to address health disparities through increased access to medication-assisted treatment. Time will be provided throughout the training for discussion and questions. 

At the conclusion of the daylong MAT training, participants will be able to: 1.Describe at least three (3) acute and chronic effects of alcohol, heroin, and otheropioids.2.Describe the prevalence of and key populations impacted by alcohol and opioiduse, abuse, and dependence.3.Provide examples of three (3) medications that are available to treat alcohol andopioid use disorders.4.List and explain at least two strategies that can be used to address healthdisparities through increased access to medication-assisted treatment.5.List at least two (2) common perceptions of medication-assisted treatment.
