Celebrating National Recovery Month 2023!

National Recovery Month (Recovery Month) is a national observance held every September to celebrate the millions of Americans that are in recovery from substance use and mental health.
Each September, thousands of people across the nation host celebrations to foster a deeper understanding of substance use disorders and mental health, promote new evidence-based treatment and recovery practices, and honor community members who dedicate their lives to make recovery possible.
The following events will happen throughout the SSW ATTC region this year:

 

ARKANSAS 

3 Hour National Recovery Month Walk: Fort Smith - September 24th • 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM CST
Join Harbor House, Inc. Prevention for our Recovery Awareness Walk at Ben Garen Regional Park to help celebrate our community members in recovery from substance use or mental health problems and those who support their journey

If you’re looking for a fun and free way to support National Recovery Month, look no further than Recovery Jam! This event is free and open to the public, so bring your friends and family to the River Walk Pavilion! We will have live music, food, and more – it’s perfect for anyone looking to have a good time. Come out and show your support for those in recovery! This is a great opportunity to learn more about how you can help people in your community who are working on their sobriety. Rare of Breed is bringing the Recovery Tour to the Pavilion at Heritage Square in Sulphur, LA! Rare of Breed combines country, rap, and gospel music to deliver a message of hope and recovery. This year marks the 5th Annual Hero Run for Albuquerque Center for Hope and Recovery (ACHR). Event Sign-in and day-of registration will take place from 7 am - 8 am. The race will begin promptly at 8 am. Participants will receive an event T-shirt and swag bag. Fifteen minutes prior to the start of the race, ACHR will offer a warm-up and stretch for participants. Oklahoma Redhawks’ “Recovery Happens”: Oklahoma City - September 1st • 2:00 PM CT
Redhawks’ final game of the season. The event begins with the opening pitch provided by David Mantle, Mickey Mantle’s son, who has nine years of substance abuse recovery. Approximately 2,500 “Recovery Happens” ball caps, publications and other items will be distributed. Items will follow a baseball theme, promoting recovery and also providing information on treatment facilities and options.

The Oklahoma Partners for Change Conference is held annually each fall. The Attorney General and partner agencies provide this two-day statewide conference on domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking and human sex trafficking to enhance knowledge among state and tribal professionals, including law enforcement officers, advocates, prosecutors, judges and allied professionals.

Narconon Arrowhead - Community Event: McAlester - September 20th • 5:30 PM CT
Celebration of National Recovery Month and the anniversary of its new facility. Narcanon also is starting a southeastern chapter of OCARTA. The Sept. 20 event will feature a barbecue dinner, a drug education presentation for children, community awards for dedication to the betterment of lives, guest speakers from around the state including elected and law enforcement officials and live entertainment afterward. Approximately 1,500 people are expected to attend the event, which will be held at the Southeast Expo Center in McAlester. Dinner starts at 5:30 p.m. and the event starts at 7 p.m.

Each rally features local vendors, live entertainment, special guest speakers, food and drinks, fun activities for the family, and much more. For more than a decade, the Big Texas Rally for Recovery has been a celebration for recovery of individuals, families, and entire communities across Texas. Admission is always free. On September 9th, 2023, the Houston Recovery Initiative and the Party Sober Partnership will be hosting the 13th annual Greater Houston Big Texas Rally for Recovery. We will be Celebrating the Beauty of Recovery in the Houston Botanic Garden from 10am to 4pm, highlighting the parallels of the beauty of both.
