This 16-hour training (12 hours of live interactive training through Zoom + 4 hours of professional development plan assignments), combined with the 14-hour online “Clinical Supervision Foundations I” training, will meet the 30-hour Clinical Supervision training requirement for the Advanced Counselor and Master Counselor status, as referenced in the OASAS Substance Use Disorder Scope of Practice. This training recognizes the crucial role that Clinical Supervision holds as the cornerstone of performance improvement at both the program and client level. Clinical Supervision, when properly implemented by competent Clinical Supervisors, improves client care, develops clinical skills, and improves the knowledge and professionalism of clinical personnel. It is also paramount in imparting and maintaining ethical standards in the addictions profession. This training met the requirements for 16 renewal hours (CASAC, CPP, CPS) and 16 initial hours (CPP, CPS) through New York State’s Office of Addiction Services and Supports (NYS OASAS). As an IC & RC member board, OASAS accredited courses were granted reciprocal approval by the New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs, Alcohol and Drug Counselor Committee. Many other states offered reciprocity.

Presenters: Paul Hunziker, MA and Lynsey Parrish-Dearth (Northern Cheyenne, Crow, Turtle Mountain Chippewa), MSW, LICSW March 2023 Culture is a part of every interaction a clinical supervisor has with their supervisees, clients and other staff at their agencies. The leadership role that a clinical supervisor plays demands that they feel confident in their skills navigating cultural discussions. This includes working with staff to develop their skills in cultural humility and awareness. Clinical supervisors in training regularly report that having more representative video examples of supervisor skills would be useful. In response to this feedback the Northwest ATTC has created a video series which demonstrates examples of a supervisor working with a supervisee on culturally related issues in their professional development. For this webinar two of the creators of these video demonstrations, Paul Hunziker and Lynsey Parrish-Dearth, will discuss how they incorporated cultural skills-building into the demonstration. Paul and Lynsey also co-teach a tribe focused clinical supervision skills training. The shifting landscape of regulations related to telehealth can make it difficult for practitioners to keep up with this important area. This document gives a brief overview of national and regional telehealth trends for behavioral health services, with a focus on Health and Human Services (HHS) Region 6 which includes Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Texas. Current laws and administrative codes for behavioral health treatment that use telehealth to deliver services were examined to prepare this document.

The Clinical Supervision Skills Video Demonstration series intends to provide examples of how to utilize specific methods taught in the Northwest ATTC clinical supervision training series. The series follows two mock supervisees and their supervisors demonstrating clinical supervision vignettes on providing feedback, building a professional development plan, and working through a corrective action. The supervisees in these videos are all relatively new to the field, making a more directive approach to supervision helpful for their stage of professional development. The videos below can be viewed as stand-alone or in sequence. Presenters: Christina Love and Jess Wojcik May 2022 As many people know, the professional identity of peer staff is rooted in their lived experience and deep connection to personal vulnerabilities. What is not often talked about or addressed are the imbalances that many peers face in the workforce. The majority of peers work alongside and are supervised by clinicians and other professionals who may not have the ability to disclose their lived experience, or who do not identify as having lived experience. Often, these imbalances can lead to unclear job descriptions, miscommunication, siloing of services, and replication of the harm many peers have experienced in navigating systems of care. During this one hour webinar, Christina Love and Jess Wojcik provided a 30,000 foot overview of an upcoming training on supervision of peer based recovery support services and a primer for helping attendees move toward organizational transformation and healing through supportive relationships and supervisory practices. This course consists of two interconnected components: an online course and a face-to-face training, and is intended for supervisors in substance use disorder (SUD) treatment and recovery settings. The course totals 30 contact hours and introduces clinical supervisors, along with persons preparing to become supervisors, to the knowledge and skills essential to the practice of supervision.The Clinical Supervision Foundations course is especially suited for: Beginning clinical supervisors; Clinical Supervisors who would like to enhance or review the fundamental skills needed to be a successful clinical supervisor; Counselors who are being groomed to become clinical supervisors; and Behavioral healthcare professionals who want to learn more about clinical supervision.

Findings form the National Institute on Drug Abuse's Clinical Trials Network protocol documented that one Motivational Interviewing (MI) assessment interview resulted in higher retention rates during the first four MIA:STEP Brochure Coverweeks of treatment when compared to assessments as usual.The MIA:STEP Blending Team designed empirically supported mentoring products to enhance the MI skills of treatment providers, as well as supervisory tools to fortify a supervisor's ability to provide structured, focused, and effective clinical supervision. MIA:STEP introduces an effective strategy for observation-based clinical supervision, the use of which has potential to improve counselor skills beyond MI.

In response to the need for an educational program which helps supervisors qualify for credentialing, the course presents participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to assure quality of care and promote the professional development of addictions counselors. Knowing it is difficult for supervisors to be away from the worksite for extended periods, the course was intentionally designed utilizing a combination of online, face-to-face, and worksite formats to make up this 30-hour course. The 14-hour, ten module online course is self-paced, and can be taken as a standalone. It is intended to introduce basic concepts and resources, while providing a conceptual overview of the work of a clinical supervisor. The face-to-face segment, which requires the online course as a prerequisite, delves further into some of the more practical aspects of supervision and builds in opportunities for skills practice, offering a worksite aspect giving supervisors an opportunity to self-assess their knowledge and skills, as well as create a plan for continuing their professional development.

Performance Assessment Rubrics for the Addiction Counseling Competencies. The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s Center for Substance Abuse Treatment (CSAT), in cooperation with the Addiction Technology Transfer Center (ATTC) Network, originally published Addiction Counseling Competencies: The Knowledge, Skills, and Attitudes of Professional Practice as a Technical Assistance Publication (TAP 21) in 1988. In the years since, TAP 21 has become a standard for the development of addiction counseling curricula and the assessment of counseling proficiency. In 2005 the document underwent a thorough review and revision to align with evolving developments in the field. This document is a companion product to TAP 21. It describes counselor/clinician proficiency along a continuum marked by four distinct benchmark descriptions of counselor ability for each of the competencies. Such a continuum is referred to as a rubric. More will be said about the continuum later.
