Explore the slides and video from the Workplace Well-Being: A Guidebook for Cultivating a Culture of Collective Care launch event held on November 13, 2024. The guidebook provides actionable strategies for building a supportive and compassionate workplace environment. It serves as both a comprehensive resource and a reflective journal, designed to help leaders identify and address the effects of stress and trauma, while nurturing a resilient, trauma-informed culture. During the launch event, participants were introduced to the guidebook's core concepts and learned practical approaches for integrating its tools into their organizations to enhance well-being and foster a stronger, more caring workplace culture.

This skill-focused Learning Community conversation defines and demonstrates a way of engaging that considers the worker-task of providing information and/or feedback to people receiving services. This method of collaborative conversation can prevent disconnection, pushback and increase engagement. This training was approved for two renewal hours (CASAC, CPP, CPS) and two initial hours (CPP, CPS) through New York State’s Office of Addiction Services and Supports (NYS OASAS). As an IC & RC member board, OASAS accredited courses were granted reciprocal approval by the New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs, Alcohol and Drug Counselor Committee. Many other states offered reciprocity.

Who are “leaders” in implementation? Implementation leaders may be people in leadership roles, such as administrators, directors, or supervisors, and/or they may be change leaders, also sometimes referred to as “champions” in the implementation field. You don’t need to have an official leadership title or job role to effect change and lead implementation efforts within your organization.

Designed for organizational leaders, this guidebook provides comprehensive strategies for fostering a supportive and caring workplace environment. The guidebook is intended to serve as both a resource and a reflective journal for leaders to consider how to recognize and respond to the impact of stress and trauma in their organizations, with an emphasis on building a more resilient, trauma-informed workplace culture.

This interactive learning community conversation focuses on the development of groups and the use of groups as a method of intervention. Emphasis will be placed on group work vs. case work in a group, and the skills necessary to facilitate groups. Prior group facilitation experience is a plus and is not required. The Mid-America Addiction Technology Transfer Center (Mid-America ATTC) Impact Report highlights our contributions to the behavioral and substance use workforce from 2017 to 2024. The report offers an overview of our activities and achievements during this funding cycle.

Mark has worked for 40 years as a social worker, educator, and part of the SUD workforce. He is founder of the Online Museum of African American Addictions, Treatment and Recovery and co-founder of Serenity Academy of Chicago, the only recovery-oriented high school in Illinois. Mark is also an international speaker, trainer, and consultant in the behavioral health field whose work has reached thousands throughout the United States, Europe, Canada, the Caribbean, and the British Islands. Recently, Mark Sanders was named as the 2021 recipient of the NAADAC Enlightenment Award in recognition of his outstanding work and contributions to NAADAC, the field of SUD services, and SUD professionals. He is also the recipient of the Illinois Association for Behavioral Health’s 2021 Lawrence Goodman Friend of the Field award in honor of the many years of dedicated service Mark has provided to communities throughout his home state of Illinois.

The Counselor's Corner blog series brings timely tips and inspiration for counseling professionals. The first posts in our series feature guest blogger Mark Sanders, LCSW, CADC. Mark shares insights he's gained over 30 years in the field as a clinician and trainer. 

This mini-course is about peer mentoring, which is also called recovery coaching, and how those services are used in Kansas, how one becomes certified as a peer mentor, and what peer mentors need to know and be watchful for as they work. This course is part of an online 6-course series, Understanding Addiction Services in Kansas: A Minicourse Series, designed for Kansas mental health and addiction counseling professionals and organization leaders who need to know about topics essential to Kansas Substance Use Disorder (SUD) practice. The Mountain Plains ATTC wishes to share an Executive Summary that provides a review of the findings from a study conducted among service providers in Region 8 in 2020. The focus of the study was on examining best-practices to expand service collaborations and partnerships with providers of substance use disorder treatment and recovery services. The findings include the themes of Coming Together, Working Together, Keeping the Collaboration Going, Benefits of Collaboration, and Effects of Lack of Collaboration. The findings also provide statements from participants in the study and inform providers of what ensures successful collaborations. Stigma undermines access to diagnosis, treatment, and successful health outcomes for people with substance use disorders. This session will explore techniques to eliminating the stigma that exists in systems of care and will describe opportunities and challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Essential Conversations in Social Services 2020 (previously called 20-Minute Tips) is a podcast intended for behavioral health (BH) and substance use disorder (SUD) providers in Region 7. During each episode, we will interview a subject matter expert on a specific topic and explore tips designed to help the BH and SUD workforce. During this episode, we discuss the importance of self-care for BH leaders with Dena Sneed, the Director of the Center for Trauma Informed Innovation at Truman Medical Center in Kansas City, MO. This project is a collaboration by the Mid-America Addiction and Mental Health Technology transfer centers and is funded by SAMHSA, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. The South Africa HIV ATTC has developed a series of 1-page guides to provide guidance for online engagement. These products were adapted from the larger resource developed by the Pacific Southwest Mental Health TTC to ensure cultural relevance. Maryellen Evers, LCSW, CAADC   Given recent public health concerns and the importance of social distancing, substance use disorders (SUDs) treatment and recovery support providers are seeking viable alternatives to in-person service delivery. The use of technology through a web-based videoconferencing platform in a synchronous manner (often called telehealth or telemental health) offers one solution. Recent research confirms high levels of patient satisfaction with mental health and substance abuse services delivered via videoconferencing, along with positive treatment outcomes. Most importantly, the skills and knowledge required for delivering treatment and recovery services through videoconferencing are different than those used for conducting business meetings online. This webinar will provide an overview of the essentials of videoconferencing with patients/peers, including: a clinical/support session checklist; a review of legal, ethical, and patient/peer safety concerns; and privacy/security and confidentiality issues. Mat Roosa, LCSW-R, was a founding member of NIATx and has been a NIATx coach for a wide range of projects. He works as a consultant in the quality improvement, organizational development and planning, evidence-based practice implementation, and also serves as a local government planner in behavioral health in New York State. In this interview, Mat gives an overview of NIATx and process improvement in behavioral health.

This guide book is designed for leadership in a trauma-informed care initiative or a ROSC transformation—maybe in an organization, in a whole system, or in a whole community.   A Challenge to Leadership has 8 sections. Each section has a set of “action notes,” which are basically workbook tools.  The Action Notes can be used to start a planning process for a change team or a transformation team.      

The Clinical Supervision Foundations course was developed by the Addiction Technology Transfer Center (ATTC) Network as an introduction to the essential elements of supervisory practice. In response to the need for an educational program which helps supervisors qualify for credentialing, the course presents participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to assure quality of care and promote the professional development of addictions counselors. Knowing it is difficult for supervisors to be away from the worksite for extended periods, the course was intentionally designed utilizing a combination of online, face-to-face, and worksite formats to make up this 30-hour course. The 14-hour, ten module online course is self-paced, and can be taken as a standalone. It is intended to introduce basic concepts and resources, while providing a conceptual overview of the work of a clinical supervisor. The face-to-face segment, which requires the online course as a prerequisite, delves further into some of the more practical aspects of supervision and builds in opportunities for skills practice, offering a worksite aspect giving supervisors an opportunity to self-assess their knowledge and skills, as well as create a plan for continuing their professional development.
