Working with persons from diverse backgrounds in any discipline requires that professionals engage in a culturally responsive manner that can enhance the clinical processes used to provide individualized treatment and health care. This interactive two-part webinar (90 minutes each) will present on the importance of acknowledging our own values & beliefs.

This two-part webinar will review SUD diagnosis criteria, the impact of SUD on the brain and compulsivity factor, as well as specific signs and symptoms for alcohol and opioid use disorders (AUD, OUD). The content will further explain how medicated assisted treatment (MAT) works, why it’s the most effective treatment for OUD and AUD, and will include points for providers to effectively inform clients on how MAT increases a person’s opportunity for access and sustain recovery.

This two-part webinar will review the Ethics Code for Counselors. Topics include: definitions and foundations of ethics, principles and problem areas, professional responsibility and counselor considerations. Confidentiality will also be reviewed. There will be case studies, discussion, and information on technology and ethics.

Professional boundaries set the parameters of effective and appropriate interaction between professionals and the persons they serve. They protect clients or patients as well as the provider. This course will discuss professionalism and ethics, dual relationships, how to build a safe working environment and maintain professional boundaries that are essential for practice and achieving client goals.

Hispanic adolescents in the US tend to grow up with intersecting Latino and American cultures. Addressing maladaptive behavior with Latino youth encourages a culturally informed approach that integrates an ecological understanding of their world and the factors that influences their behavior. Some of these can include substance use disorders, mental health concerns, family dysfunction, adolescent development stages.

This role play scenario can be used as part of an SBIRT training. It involves Tiffany, a 45 year old woman being seen for chronic ankle pain who scores in the severe zone on the DAST for prescription opioid misuse.

The purpose of this introductory training is to provide HIV clinicians (including, but not limited to physicians, dentists, nurses, and other allied health professionals, therapists and social workers, and counselors, specialists, and case managers) with an overview of the opioid epidemic and HIV. The duration of the training is approximately 120-150 minutes (2-2 ½ hours), depending on whether the trainer chooses to present all of the slides, or a selection of slides.

The Buprenorphine Treatment for Young Adults Blending Team designed a training package which highlights the findings of the NIDA CTN study that compared longer term versus short-term buprenorphine/naloxone treatment in an outpatient setting. The 3-hour training program examines the prevalence of and treatment admission rates for nonmedical use of opioids among young adults; provides an overview of opioid use among young adults; explores and increases understanding of the results of new research on using buprenorphine to treat opioid addiction in young adults; and describes the implications of these findings for the treatment of opioid addiction in young adults.        

The Short-term Opioid Withdawal Using Buprenorphine (Bup Detox) Blending Team designed a training package to instruct treatment providers on the administration of aBup Detox Brochure Cover unique,13-day Buprenorphine taper intervention for opioid dependent patients. Research conducted in both inpatient and outpatient settings by the NIDA Clinical Trials Network demonstrated that, in contrast with the clonidine treatment group, patients receiving Buprenorphine provided more opioid-negative urine samples upon completion of the intervention. This training assumes some basic prior information about what Buprenorphine is and how it is used.            

Treatment Strategies for Prescription Opioid Dependence is a package of tools and training resources for substance use disorders treatment providers. The results of the study have implications for the treatment of adults dependent on prescription opioids. The POATS Blending Team (BT) package is designed to help treatment providers incorporate study findings and recommendations into their practice.          

2-hour, self-paced course provides a science-based introduction to substance use, substance use disorders (SUDs) and SUD treatment. Designed for undergraduate, graduate, and health professions students and practitioners who do not have a background in addictions.

This 8-hour self-paced course is based on the transdisciplinary foundations of the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration's Technical Assistance Publication #21, Addiction Counseling Competencies. Caring for and Empowering Women with Substance Use Disorders is an e-learning series that features courses for clinicians and staff who work with and support women in treatment and recovery. In this course, Reproductive and Sexual Health, participants will have the opportunity to learn more about family planning and sexually transmitted infections among women who misuse substances. This course includes interactive activities and short video clips narrated by Dr. Hendree Jones.

This curriculum describes a family-centered approach to treatment, care, and supervision of pregnant and postpartum women (PPW) with a substance use disorder and their families. It contains six modules designed for delivery in 45-minute in-service sessions by a clinical supervisor or similar professional. The primary audience is addiction treatment providers and the secondary audience is their community partners. The curriculum contains trainer and participant manuals and slides.

In this didactic presentation, Hendree Jones, PhD, from UNC Horizons discusses ways attachment-based parenting can improve mother and child outcomes while in treatment for substance use disorders. An overview of attachment theory, styles, and trauma are included in this presentation.
