This is a curriculum developed to address the professional standards that guide the community corrections professional's role as change agent, the specific competencies associated with reducing risk and the common knowledge, skills and attitudes for community corrections professionals.

Four-hour self-paced online SBIRT course; continuing education available for physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, marriage and family therapists, social workers, registered nurses, and certified addiction counselors.

The purpose of this full-day, interactive, practice-based training is to provide HIV clinicians (including, but not limited to physicians, dentists, nurses, and other allied medical staff, therapists and social workers, and counselors, specialists, and case managers) with a detailed overview of screening patients for at-risk alcohol and other drug use and conducting a brief intervention with patients to reduce their at-risk substance use.

The purpose of this introductory training is to provide HIV clinicians (including, but not limited to physicians, dentists, nurses, and other allied medical staff, therapists and social workers, and counselors, specialists, and case managers) with a detailed overview of substance abuse and HIV among youth.

The goal of this training course is teach participants how to develop their skills to deliver Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT). The assumption in designing this course is that participants have already completed the self-paced online course (Foundations of SBIRT) that introduced the topic of SBIRT. The aim of this training course is to help participants to (1) develop skills related to SBIRT, and to (2) begin a conversation around implementation of SBIRT.

The Faith-Based Education and Training Series features five curricula that were developed through a partnership between PSATTC, AAAOD/LAM, and FRI. Each curriculum includes fully articulated trainer notes.

This revision of the March 2012 face-to-face version of the Pacific Southwest ATTC’s SBIRT curriculum was prepared by the National Screening, Brief Intervention and Referral to Treatment ATTC. The goals of the training remain the same: to help participants to develop skills related to SBIRT, and to begin a conversation around implementation of SBIRT in standard practice. The revised curriculum expands the format and presents the trainer with the opportunity to focus on any 1 of 4 option.

The purpose of this introductory training package is to provide clinicians from a variety of work and educational backgrounds with a detailed overview of synthetic drugs, including substances known on the street as K2, Spice, and Bath Salts. The presentation seeks to raise awareness by defining key terms, describing the main classes of synthetic drugs commonly available, presenting available data on the extent of use, providing information on how to identify and assess individuals using them.

The purpose of this half-day, introductory training is to provide HIV clinicians (including, but not limited to physicians, dentists, nurses, and other allied medical staff, therapists and social workers, and counselors, specialists, and case managers) with an overview of medical marijuana, its use among individuals living with HIV, and strategies on how to work with HIV patients who are using medical marijuana.

The purpose of this introductory training is to provide HIV clinicians (including, but not limited to physicians, dentists, nurses, and other allied medical staff, therapists and social workers, and counselors, specialists, and case managers) with a detailed overview of screening patients for at-risk alcohol and other drug use and conducting a brief intervention with patients to reduce their at-risk substance use.

The purpose of the HIV Integration Training Package is to provide HIV clinicians (including, but not limited to physicians, dentists, nurses, and other allied medical staff, therapists and social workers, and counselors, specialists, and case mangers) with an overview of integrated treatment for individuals living with HIV. The main focus of the training is the integration of mental health and substance use disorder treatment services with HIV care.

The purpose of this introductory training curriculum is to provide HIV clinicians (including, but not limited to physicians, dentists, nurses, and other allied medical staff, therapists and social workers, and counselors, specialists, and case managers) with an overview of alcohol and HIV. Also included the training product is a detailed trainer guide and 2-page fact sheet for HIV clinicians.

Self-paced online course that contains six modules of instruction covering topics related to Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT) Model. Topics include: understanding the scope of alcohol and drug abuse/dependence; research why dentists need to understand SUDs; and an overview on how to implement the SBIRT model in dental settings.

The Clinical Supervision Foundations course was developed by the Addiction Technology Transfer Center (ATTC) Network as an introduction to the essential elements of supervisory practice. In response to the need for an educational program which helps supervisors qualify for credentialing, the course presents participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to assure quality of care and promote the professional development of addictions counselors. Knowing it is difficult for supervisors to be away from the worksite for extended periods, the course was intentionally designed utilizing a combination of online, face-to-face, and worksite formats to make up this 30-hour course. The 14-hour, ten module online course is self-paced, and can be taken as a standalone. It is intended to introduce basic concepts and resources, while providing a conceptual overview of the work of a clinical supervisor. The face-to-face segment, which requires the online course as a prerequisite, delves further into some of the more practical aspects of supervision and builds in opportunities for skills practice, offering a worksite aspect giving supervisors an opportunity to self-assess their knowledge and skills, as well as create a plan for continuing their professional development.  

The 1.5 hour self-paced, online course is designed to introduce key terms, topics, and resources essential to SBIRT. SBIRT is a comprehensive, integrated, public health approach to the delivery of early intervention and treatment for persons with substance use disorders, as well as those who are risk of developing these disorders. The course provides an introduction to SBIRT, including the rationale for and efficacy of implementation in various settings.

This curriculum was written by American Indians for the benefit of American Indians. The authors were mindful of how frequently psycho-educational skills programs provided to American Indian participants have been culturally biased and consequently unsuccessful because of their inherent prejudices and inappropriateness. Research suggests a less prescriptive, more flexible program that promotes culturally relevant and appropriate psycho-educational group techniques to promote cultural identity, self-disclosure, processing, altruism and an emphasis on psychology’s strength model rather than on psychology’s traditional deficit model. Training Objectives: 1) Experience a world view of interpreting reality through heart and hand as well as head, 2) Gain awareness of one’s own attitudes, beliefs and perceptions about substance misuse based on cultural experience, 3) Gain awareness of how one’s attitudes, beliefs and perceptions are a product of one’s life experience. Promoting Awareness of Motivational Incentives (PAMI) is based on the positive research outcomes and lessons learned from the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) Clinical Trials Network (CTN) study, titled Motivational Incentives for Enhanced Drug Abuse Recovery (MIEDAR) along with feedback from the Fishbowl Method. This product (revised 2011) is the most comprehensive awareness resource available for Motivational Incentives to date. It includes a detailed PowerPoint presentation highlighting Dr. Nancy Petry's Fishbowl Method, and a testimonial-based video which speaks to any audience about Motivational Incentives. Supporting this multi-media product is a wide variety of research-based resources which serve as a tool kit to help generate both funding and practice ideas. The Addiction Severity Index (ASI) is one of the most universally used instruments for the assessment of substance abuse and related problems. This Blending Team has designed products that include a 6-hour training which addresses how to transform required "paperwork" into clinically useful information. These products also address the key tenets of treatment objectives and interventions (Measurable, Attainable, Time-Limited, Realistic, and Specific), referred to as Treatment Planning "M.A.T.R.S." What is the ASI? The ASI is one of the most reliable and valid measurements of the nature and severity of client problems, and it identifies potential problems in six domain areas: medical status, employment and support, alcohol and drug use, legal status, family/social status, and psychiatric status. This NIDA/SAMHSA-ATTC Blending Initiative is based on the work of a team comprised of staff from the Mid-America, Mountain West and Gulf Coast ATTCs and Treatment Research Institute.

Designed for delivery by clinical supervisors with staff; can give insight into the strengths/challenges regarding approaches to treatment of co-occurring disorders and help identify areas where more in-depth training is needed or where programs need enhancement. Eighteen 45-minute modules were developed for use in a learning environment that includes a mix of treatment professionals with various degrees of experience. 

Seven week course designed to enhance knowledge and abilities in addiction training.

One-day training workshop focused on building the awareness of Family Members and Child Protective Services (CPS) volunteers about their role in facilitating change for CPS families impacted by substance use and behavioral health disorders. This curriculum teaches criminal justice and substance abuse professionals to work together more effectively. It is a 12-hour or 2-day experiential training. Training topics include: • Understand the mission and values of the criminal justice and substance abuse treatment systems • Collaboration and team-building across systems • What works in criminal justice and addiction treatment • Benefits of corrections-based treatment • Characteristics of the substance-abusing offender

Opioid abuse and addiction (e.g., heroin, OxyContin) remains a critical national public health concern. In 2002, tablet formulations of the medication Buprenorphine were approved by the Food and Drug Administration for the treatment of opioid addiction. In order to prepare the field to effectively integrated this new treatment, the Buprenorphine Treatment Blending Team developed an awareness training to disseminate information and enhance awareness among multidisciplinary (non-physician) addiction professionals about Buprenorphine treatment. This training is designed to provide a broad overview of the medication, its effects, and the role of non-physician practitioners in providing and supporting the treatment of individuals receiving this medication.
