This brochure provides an overview of the South Africa HIV ATTC’s goals, objectives, and popular training topics. The South Africa HIV ATTC is an implementation science centre co-funded by the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. The brochure contains information about how organisations can request training or technical assistance.

Mid-America ATTC has developed a 2018 version of the Hepatitis Awareness Month (May) Info Sheet and Bulletin Insert. Side one has been updated to focus on the dual epidemics of the opioid crisis and hepatitis C virus (HCV). Although the document was initially designed for the faith community, it is appropriate as an educational flyer for much broader audiences. Naloxone temporarily reverses the effects of opioid overdose:slowed or stopped breathing and is typically utilized by first responders. The US surgeon general issued an advisory Thursday, April 5, 2018 recommending that more Americans carry the opioid overdose-reversing drug, naloxone which is sold under the brand name Narcan.

Dr. Dennis McCarty, PhD, provides an overview of treatment and prevention of opioid use disorder, with a discussion of effective use of medications.

This presentation discusses task shifting as a means of addressing severe mental illness. The presentation details two task shifting models supported by the South Africa HIV ATTC: (1) treatment partner (TP), psychoeducation, and m-health intervention; and (2) community health worker (CHW) mental health training intervention.

This double-sided handout can be given to and discussed with patients during the brief intervention. Side one contains information on prescription opioids and heroin, including mixing opioids with other substances, risks of opioid use, how to safeguard prescription opioids, steps to take if using opioids, and tips for quitting. Side two describes the effects of opioid misuse on the body.

Treatment Strategies for Prescription Opioid Dependence is a package of tools and training resources for substance use disorders treatment providers. The results of the study have implications for the treatment of adults dependent on prescription opioids. The POATS Blending Team (BT) package is designed to help treatment providers incorporate study findings and recommendations into their practice.

This 8-hour self-paced course is based on the transdisciplinary foundations of the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration's Technical Assistance Publication #21, Addiction Counseling Competencies. Designed to provide an overview of the addictive process and basic knowledge, attitudes, and skills utilized by professionals from a variety of backgrounds who work with clients experiencing substance use disorders.
