The purpose of this introductory training curriculum is to provide HIV clinicians (including, but not limited to physicians, dentists, nurses, and other allied medical staff, therapists and social workers, and counselors, specialists, and case managers) with an overview of alcohol and HIV. Also included the training product is a detailed trainer guide and 2-page fact sheet for HIV clinicians.

This is one of two issues addressing the 8 SAMHSA's Strategic Initiative. These issues emphasizes on a general overview of the 8 initiatives and provide a more detailed description on Trauma and Justice, Health Information Technology, and Data, Outcomes and Quality.

Self-paced online course that contains six modules of instruction covering topics related to Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT) Model. Topics include: understanding the scope of alcohol and drug abuse/dependence; research why dentists need to understand SUDs; and an overview on how to implement the SBIRT model in dental settings.

In recognition of Recovery Month 2011, this year's essay contest invited individuals who have been supported in their recovery by medications, including methadone or buprenorphine for opioid addiction and acamprosate or naltrexone for alcohol addiction, to share their stories.

The Clinical Supervision Foundations course was developed by the Addiction Technology Transfer Center (ATTC) Network as an introduction to the essential elements of supervisory practice. In response to the need for an educational program which helps supervisors qualify for credentialing, the course presents participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to assure quality of care and promote the professional development of addictions counselors. Knowing it is difficult for supervisors to be away from the worksite for extended periods, the course was intentionally designed utilizing a combination of online, face-to-face, and worksite formats to make up this 30-hour course. The 14-hour, ten module online course is self-paced, and can be taken as a standalone. It is intended to introduce basic concepts and resources, while providing a conceptual overview of the work of a clinical supervisor. The face-to-face segment, which requires the online course as a prerequisite, delves further into some of the more practical aspects of supervision and builds in opportunities for skills practice, offering a worksite aspect giving supervisors an opportunity to self-assess their knowledge and skills, as well as create a plan for continuing their professional development.

The 1.5 hour self-paced, online course is designed to introduce key terms, topics, and resources essential to SBIRT. SBIRT is a comprehensive, integrated, public health approach to the delivery of early intervention and treatment for persons with substance use disorders, as well as those who are risk of developing these disorders. The course provides an introduction to SBIRT, including the rationale for and efficacy of implementation in various settings.

The Journal of the Arizona Dental Association-Inscriptions, Volume 25, Number 13, September 2011 featured an article focused on the potential of patient abuse of prescription drugs, especially opioid based medication prescribed by dental practitioners to manage pain. Provided in the article are data and ways to engage patients in conversation regarding their prescription drug use.

This curriculum was written by American Indians for the benefit of American Indians. The authors were mindful of how frequently psycho-educational skills programs provided to American Indian participants have been culturally biased and consequently unsuccessful because of their inherent prejudices and inappropriateness. Research suggests a less prescriptive, more flexible program that promotes culturally relevant and appropriate psycho-educational group techniques to promote cultural identity, self-disclosure, processing, altruism and an emphasis on psychology’s strength model rather than on psychology’s traditional deficit model. Training Objectives: 1) Experience a world view of interpreting reality through heart and hand as well as head, 2) Gain awareness of one’s own attitudes, beliefs and perceptions about substance misuse based on cultural experience, 3) Gain awareness of how one’s attitudes, beliefs and perceptions are a product of one’s life experience. This is the spanish version of this product. In September, 2006 and March, 2007, 30 leaders in the addiction field gathered in Greenville, South Carolina and Savannah, Georgia (respectively) to discuss this critical topic.  

Promoting Awareness of Motivational Incentives (PAMI) is based on the positive research outcomes and lessons learned from the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) Clinical Trials Network (CTN) study, titled Motivational Incentives for Enhanced Drug Abuse Recovery (MIEDAR) along with feedback from the Fishbowl Method. This product (revised 2011) is the most comprehensive awareness resource available for Motivational Incentives to date. This book comprises 20 essays in which family members described, in their own words, the most challenging part about having a family member with a substance use disorder, what it means to have a loved one find long-term recovery and explain why they are committed to recovery.

The ATTC Messenger is a monthly e-publication that communicates tips and information on best practices along with features including Addiction Science Made Easy articles, information about national professional development events and funding opportunities, links to state-of-the-art online resources and other electronic publications relevant to the field.

Each quarter in the “Meet the Researcher” series, the Research Society on Alcoholism (RSA) and the ATTC Network have partnered to introduce you to some of the scientists working hard to make an impact in the lives of individuals battling the disease of addiction. The first profile was that of Clive Harper, M.D., FRCPA, winner of the 2009 RSA Begleiter Research Award.

The National Office has been working with the Northeast ATTC to take their publication "Know the Facts in New York" and turn it into a Network Product. This booklet will present facts relating to the benefits of treatment to society.

In recognition of the 2009 Recovery Month, the National Office, in partnership with the Association of Recovery Schools (ARS), held an essay contest to celebrate student recovery and highlight the work of recovery schools. This booklet highlights the first, second and third place recovery high school and college award-winning essays, as well as nine additional receiving honorable mentions.
