Past Events

Training is available for physicians interested in seeking their waiver to prescribe buprenorphine in the treatment of opioid use disorders. To obtain the waiver to prescribe, providers are required to take eight hours of training. Following trainings, physicians who have successfully completed the course, may apply to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Administration (SAMHSA) to obtain the waiver.
This is an ongoing coaching/teaching project about motivational interviewing (for Tri-County providers only).
Face-to-Face Training
This two-day training will equip participants with the skills necessary to train individuals to provide Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT). You'll be prepared to deliver training on an evidence-based approach that has been shown to work. SBIRT is a comprehensive, integrated, public health approach to the delivery of early intervention and treatment services for persons with substance use disorders, as well as those who are at risk at of developing these disorders. In order for SBIRT to work, the interventionists have to do it with fidelity to the model. National Recovery Month increases awareness and celebrates individuals living their lives in recovery and recognizes the dedicated workers who provide the prevention, treatment, and recovery support services that make it possible. In Honor of Recovery Month, please join us on a 4-part webinar series: Building Recovery Capital through Digital Health Technologies Part IV: Implementing Digital Health Technologies into your World This 4-part webinar series will occur every Wednesday during the month of September and will showcase digital health technologies related to recovery support services for individuals with substance use disorders, thereby helping behavioral health peer recovery, clinical and administrative staff become familiar with and develop/increase their digital health technology skills. There has been much written about relapse prevention for persons recovering from alcohol and other drug use. However, there is very little written specifically for counselors in recovery. Now that peer advocates are part of the substance use system, they will have many of the same challenges as counselors and different ones too. Target Audience: Counselors/peer advocates in recovery and supervisors of counselors/peer advocates in recovery.
Peer recovery support practice ethics outlines basic values and principles to help persons in recovery achieve their personal recovery goals by promoting self-determination, personal responsibility, and the empowerment inherent in self-directed recover. This activity is an ongoing technical assistance provides to the Single State Agency that is promoting through their STR grant peer support services.
Stigma is a major barrier preventing millions of people who are struggling with substance use from entering treatment today. This course provides psychoeducation for professionals in terms of medication assisted treatment options, as well as, demystifying traditional recovery culture which sometimes creates covert barriers within the recovery community. This presentation is designed to help professionals break that stigma that creates an unnecessary barrier to treatment by understanding recovery oriented language and strategies that can be integrated into practice immediately.
This training is for King County providers only. Treatment Planning MATRS is part of a King County workforce development plan, designed for both experienced and beginning counselors working in behavioral health professions. Participants will be provided a scenario from which they will work to create individualized treatment plans based on the principles of MATRS (Measurable, Attainable, Time-limited, Realistic and Specific). The importance of language and understanding the change process will be emphasized and information about documentation provided.
This training is for King County providers only. This training is for Assisted Recovery Centres of Africa (ARCA). Attendees will gain knowledge and skills in Motivational Interviewing (MI) techniques in order to promote behaviour change related to substance use disorders. After this training, attendees will be able to apply these skills to improve HIV treatment outcomes through strategies such as increased HIV adherence, reduced alcohol use and reduced substance use.

This training is for Multnomah County Behavioral Health providers only. This Introduction to Motivational Interviewing workshop is designed to increase providers’ capacity to deliver evidence based practices and operate from a recovery oriented system of care perspective. Participants of this training will have a number of opportunities for practice and skills development through the use of role-plays, real-plays, and interactive group exercises. Video and live demonstrations will also be used to enhance the learning process. The training is designed for professionals working in education, corrections, mental health, substance abuse, and case management.
This course provides an introduction to SBIRT, (Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment), for adolescents and young adults. As a comprehensive and preventive approach, SBIRT can identify youth at risk for substance use problems and how to conduct a brief intervention to help them modify their behavior. This interactive training will discuss validated adolescent specific, evidence based tools used in SBIRT, how to facilitate a brief intervention using motivational interviewing skills to help modify risky substance use consumption, and how to facilitate a successful referral to treatment.

This year's Addiction Medicine Symposium is designed for a wide audience of professionals who interact with those struggling with addiction, and feature experts in the areas of pain management, medicated assisted treatment, and Behavioral Pharmacology. There will be a Narcan training free of charge that begins after the symposium ends. The Narcan training is free. The Narcan product is $50.
This training is for grantees of the US Embassy from Gauteng, Free State, North West, Mpumalanga, and Limpopo Provinces. Attendees will gain knowledge on the relationship between HIV, mental health and substance use disorders. The training workshop will build skills in Screening, Brief intervention and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT) and Motivational Interviewing (MI) for behaviour change among people living with HIV, mental health issues and substance use disorders. After this training, attendees will be able to apply these skills to improve HIV treatment outcomes through strategies such as increased HIV adherence, reduced alcohol use and reduced substance use.

This is a training event of the Clinical Supervision Foundations, ATTC Network course. This course introduces clinical supervisors, along with persons preparing to become supervisors, to the knowledge and skills essential to the practice of supervision. The curriculum is an introductory course intended as a first step in preparing clinicians to provide meaningful supervision.
