This manual was developed as part of a PhD by the South Africa HIV ATTC Co-Director, Dr. Goodman Sibeko. Initial piloting took place at two non-profit organizations after ethical approval was obtained from the Human Research Ethics Committee (913/205) of the University of Cape Town.The manual now serves as the basis of the training approach used by the South Africa HIV ATTC to help organisations improve mental health care as a means of reducing HIV risk and improving HIV treatment outcomes.

This National Workforce Report provides strategies for recruitment, retention, and development of the substance use disorder treatment and recovery services workforce. The main goals of this white paper are to emphasize the need for better integration of substance use disorder (SUD) and health care services and describe an array of effective models, interventions and implementation strategies for treating SUDs in health care settings, highlighting efforts of the ATTC Network.

In this paper, the ATTC pre-service education workgroup addresses how such advancements must progress so that health professionals will be equipped to appropriately care for patients who have, or who are at risk of developing, SUD seven generations into the future.
