National Recovery Month 2022!

Celebrating National Recovery Month 2022!

National Recovery Month (Recovery Month) is a national observance held every September to celebrate the millions of Americans that are in recovery from substance use and mental health.
Each September, thousands of people across the nation host celebrations to foster a deeper understanding of substance use disorders and mental health, promote new evidence-based treatment and recovery practices, and honor community members who dedicate their lives to make recovery possible.
The following events will happen throughout the SSW ATTC region this year:

 

TEXAS

Recover Out Loud Recovery Walk!: On September 3rd, Freedom from the Basin is hosting the inaugural Recover Out Loud Recovery Walk which will take place from 1:30PM to 4:30PM CST at Memorial Garden Park in Odessa, TX. This event is a free family-friendly event with speakers, vendors, and information on local recovery resources. You can register to attend here.

Central Texas Recovery in the Park: On September 17th, the Central Texas recovery community will host the 6th Annual Recovery in the Park event at Mueller Lake Park in East Austin from 3:00PM to 8:00PM CST. Each September during Recovery Month, this event brings out local musicians to share the stage with inspiring speakers from the community. The is a free event where guests will have the chance to connect with local recovery organizations at booths, gather resources, engage in fair-style activities and games, and enjoy delicious food! Big Texas Rally for Recovery DFW– The Sound of Recovery: On September 17th, The Dallas Fort Worth area will host advocates, peers, friends, and families across the metroplex for a day filled with fun to celebrate the 13th Anniversary of the Big Texas Rally for Recovery (BTRR). This event will be held at the Sound at Cypress Waters from 11:00AM to 3:00PM CST. You can register to attend here.

Simply Hilarious Comedy Show: On September 23rd, Simply Grace will host the Simply Hilarious Comedy Show at Gilley's Dallas-South Side Music Hall from 7:00PM to 9:00PM CST. Mark Lundholm is a hilarious and heartwarming comedian as well as a powerful inspirational speaker. Ty Cardaci is ready to bring his experience, strength and jokes for a fun filled night. Recovery in the Park: On September 24th, the Fort Worth Chapter of Texas Association of Addiction Professionals (TAAP) is hosting their annual Recovery in the Park at Trinity Park Pavilion from 10:00AM – 2:00PM CST. This event celebrates the greater Fort Worth recovery community with a day of fun filled activities for the entire family. This year’s theme is “Every Step Counts.” This FREE event will include food, entertainment, giveaways, speakers, and other activities including balloon animals, face painting, arts and crafts, DJ, live band, giveaways, and resources. We Are Those People – A Documentary Screening: On September 26th, We Are Those People will be screening at the Austin Film Society Cienma from 6:00PM to 8:30PM CST. The screening follows six courageous individuals who are in long-term recovery from a substance use disorder. You can register to attend here.

Greater Houston Big Texas Rally for Recovery: On October 1st, the Houston Recovery Initiative and the Party Sober Partnership will be hosting the 12th annual Greater Houston Big Texas Rally for Recovery at the Houston Botanic Garden from 10:00AM to 4:00PM CST. This event is free and aims to celebrate the Beauty of Recovery with live music, guest speakers, food trucks, vendors, entertainment, inspiration, and resources. You can register to attend here.

 

OKLAHOMA

Walk for Recovery: On September 17th, Gateway to Prevention and Recovery will host their 2nd Annual Walk for Recovery on the grounds of the new Pottawatomie County Museum from 10:00AM to 12:30PM CST. This is a free family-friendly event that will bring together friends and families, local organizations and businesses and Gateway providers, staff, and volunteers to celebrate the journey many have entered in recovery. Recovery is Life: On September 30th, the Department of Mental Health and the Virtue Center will host a celebration at the Central Oklahoma Community and Mental Health Center from 6:00PM to 9:00PM CST. Recovery is Life is a free event with food, games, resources (i.e., Narcan, fentanyl test strips), prizes and live music. You can learn more about this event here.

 

ARKANSAS 

Recovery Jam: On September 26th, Better Community Development Inc. will be hosting a Recovery Jam at River Market Pavillion in Little Rock from 4:00PM to 8:00PM CST. Join them for free food, live music, and more. This celebration will be a wonderful opportunity to learn about recovery and how to support individuals in the community. You can learn more about this event here. 

Recovery Awareness Day: On October 1st, Safe Haven will be hosting Recovery Awareness Day (RAD) at Johnson County Fairgrounds inClarksville from 10:00AM to 5:00PM CST. This is a free event focused on increasing awareness of the recovery community in the Clarksville area. Join them for a day full of fun, music, and speakers. You can learn more about this event here. 

 
LOUISIANA

4th Annual St. Benard Recovery Rally: On September 3rd, St. Benard Recovery Awareness, will be hosting its 2nd Annual Recovery Rally at Docville Farm from 11:00AM to 2:00PM CST. Join them for a free lunch and speak with local mental health professionals, first responders, and people in recovery about what recovery means to you. You can learn more about this event here.
