The Kansas City Perinatal Recovery Collaborative (KC PRC) is working to develop, grow, and nurture a coordinated, multi-system network of services and programs to support pregnant and parenting mothers as they navigate the dual journey of parenting and recovery. Ethics for Behavioral Health Professionals Dr. Durand Crosby Chief of staff and COO with Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services will be joining us to educate mental health professionals about the importance of ethical behavior as well as everyday obstacles to ethical behavior in the modern workplace. SBIRT (Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment), is an evidence based practice that uses a preventive public health approach to identify and intervene with persons with at risk use of alcohol and other substances impacting their health and on a trajectory of substance use disorder.  This interactive 90-minute presentation will review the integration of cultural elements and inclusivity as critical to creating a safe and affirming environment which is conducive to engagement and facilitation of a substance use screen. The content will also inform how taking a few minutes to conduct a person centered brief intervention with persons from Latinx communities can help motivate reduction of substance use. Credits: This training meets the requirements for 1.5 renewal hours (CASAC, CPP, CPS) and 1.5 initial hours (CPP, CPS) through New York State’s Office of Addiction Services and Supports (NYS OASAS). Participants must attend the session in its entirety to receive a certificate of completion.

How are our veteran patients faring during quarantine? What can we, as providers, do to support them during this time? These questions are on our minds and we hope to share strategies, resources, and support each other as we work with and care for our veteran patients, especially those in Native communities. If you work with veterans, or are a veteran who supports others, we welcome you to join us for these discussions. We hope to offer support and guidance and answer questions you may have about this issue, so please feel free to get in touch and share your ideas if there are any specific topics you would like to have covered. Through this training, a variety of risk factors that may contribute to people in recovery experiencing lapses and recurrences will be discussed. Different strategies will also be presented that allow professionals to tackle recurrences in a preventive way. This webinar will be given in Spanish.

UCLA Integrated Substance Abuse Programs and the Pacific Southwest ATTC are partnering with Advocates for Human Potential to present the Sustainable Reimbursement of MAT Webinar Series. The series will be held the third Thursday from May-September 2020. Each month will feature a different topic. July’s webinar Getting Paid: Medicare, Opioid Screening, Intervention, and Treatment and Older Adults, will provide detailed information on new Medicare opioid treatment benefits, as well as Medicare billing and reimbursement for screening, intervention, treatment, and bundled services. An abundance of research has pointed to poor treatment outcomes for people with co-occurring trauma and addiction. Traditional addiction treatment has ignored the significant impact of trauma on personal recovery and subsequently people have continued to struggle as a result. With recent advances in understanding the impact of trauma, it is time for a change in the approach taken toward trauma and addiction. This interactive and experiential presentation offers an overview of the impact of trauma on the recovery process from a social, biological, psychological, and spiritual perspective and will provide clinicians with skills to work with  people affected by trauma throughout their recovery, as well as, understanding the conceptual framework of trauma-informed practice. L.A.T. (Northern Arapaho) is an enrolled member of the Northern Arapaho Nation and affiliated with the Eastern Shoshone Tribe of Wyoming. She earned a doctorate in counselor education and supervision at the University of Wyoming, and is also a Licensed Professional Counselor, and Licensed Addictions Therapist. For nineteen years she has been a mental health provider in the treatment of Native American youth and families. She is also an advocate of education in Indian Country, a resource provider for promoting cultural enhancement of evidence-based practices and practice-based evidence of treatment approaches for Native American children and their families exposed to trauma. Avis Garcia has more than nineteen years of experience and is knowledgeable about the concerns of implementation and adaptation of evidenced-based practices being introduced into Indian country. Avis is currently employed as an executive director of a nonprofit substance abuse treatment center in Cheyenne, Wyoming.

With the rapid onset of the public health emergency, COVID-19, the use of technology and social media by behavioral health practitioners, for personal and professional purposes, has increased dramatically. As such, ethical and practice issues, like self-disclosure in postings, unintentional boundary crossings and violations, privacy and security issues, and social media concerns, reflect just some of the new dilemmas that providers face today. Therefore, developing ethical competency and proficiency regarding use of technology and social media given this rapid virtualization are more important than ever before in today’s virtual world. This 90-minute webinar will provide an overview of common ethical dilemmas that behavioral health providers face related to technology, such as social network sites, videoconferencing, web-based search engines, blogs, online practitioners’ reviews, etc. Case scenarios will be used to highlight these dilemmas and encourage discussions among participants related to: 1) the use of social networking sites by clinical supervisors, providers, and clients; 2) posting comments or pictures online that may violate privacy and security or disparage the profession; 3) emailing, texting and utilizing video conferencing with clients; 4) conducting Internet searches on clients; 5) social media policy dos and don’ts from practitioner and organizational perspectives; and 6) recent rulings and new state laws that may impact an organization's social media policy for employees.   Learning Objectives: At the end of this training, participants will be able to: Name three ethical concerns related to the use of technology and social media Discuss two elements that behavioral health providers must consider before posting content on-line Recall three social media policy issues that may put organizations at risk if not addressed appropriately Identify two concerns providers must keep in mind when addressing critical online reviews by clients

Mr. Johnson is trained certified recovery coach, considered an expert in his field, and is invited frequently to present at seminars, workshops, and as a keynote or motivational speaker to not only those in recovery but youth, adults, families, and substance use professionals. In 2013, Mr. Johnson received the prestigious Vernon Johnson award from Faces and Voices of Recovery. In 2016, President Barack Obama named Mr. Johnson a Champion of Change and honored him at the White House.

CRAFT is an evidence based practice that teaches family and friends effective strategies for helping their loved one to change and for feeling better themselves. Providers use CRAFT to help families address wellness challenges including self-care, pleasurable activities, problem solving, and goal setting when dealing or living with a family member who has a substance use disorder. CRAFT also addresses their loved one’s resistance to change. With CRAFT techniques, providers learn how to teach families behavioral and motivational strategies for interacting with their loved one. This interactive virtual training will help providers to learn and consequently instruct families on a variety of skills. For example, the power of positive reinforcement for positive behavior (and of withdrawing it for unwanted behavior), and how to use positive communication skills to improve interactions and maximize their influence, and more.

Substance Use 101:  A Series Are you new in the field of substance use? Or do you want a review of the basics of alcohol and other drugs? This series of webinars/trainings is a collection of basic information and will present 3 popular topics:  the DSM-5, Neurochemistry, and Pharmacology.  Each course can be taken alone and participants will receive hours for each delivery. Introduction to the DSM-5 and Models of Substance Use  This first course will introduce participants to the DSM-5 and also present models of substance use (moral, disease, bio-psycho-social-spiritual). Also, many people are not aware of how the DSM-5 addresses culture. This course will review the Cultural Formation Interview contained in the DSM-5. Credits: This training meets the requirements for two renewal hours (CASAC, CPP, CPS) and two initial hours (CPP, CPS) through New York State’s Office of Addiction Services and Supports (NYS OASAS). Talking circles are based on the tradition of sharing circles.  Please join us together for our fourth virtual talking circle event. This event is held bi-weekly. This group will be facilitated by a Native guest and will focus on concerns about yourself, your family, your work, and/or your tribal community that you may be experiencing during these uncertain times. There is no fee or expectation to participate in this event. This is a respectful meeting space. Mid-America ATTC, in partnership with Truman Medical Center’s Center for Trauma-Informed Innovation, is committed to providing SUD treatment providers with the knowledge and support they need to become trauma-informed organizations. The Trauma-Informed Care in Behavioral Health (TIC in BH) team will be piloting an intensive technical assistance (TA) project  Amethyst Place in Missouri. The goal of this project is to work closely with OSH leadership and staff to provide training and actively support a transformation in organizational culture to implement trauma-informed care (TIC) practices in all services.
