Conference focused on the nation's epidemic, improving access to treatment, and effective pain/addiction management.
This training is for KwaZulu-Natal Department of Health providers. Attendees will gain knowledge and skills in assessment, screening, brief interventions, and referral to treatment for people with substance use disorders. After this training, attendees will be able to apply these skills to the care of their patients: such skills are expected to improve HIV treatment outcomes through increased detection and intervention of co-occurring alcohol and drug use disorders.
The Virginia Association of Medication Assisted Recovery Programs (VAMARP) was founded in 2004 with the following goals: > To promote growth, coordination and communication and networking efforts within the methadone field, including patients, staff, community, and government in the State of Virginia. > To serve as a resource or participant in the development of and advocacy for legislation and/or policy relevant to the common interest of member programs and their patients. > To enhance patient care and the provision of treatment services to opiate dependent patients and their families. > To advocate for funding for behavioral health and medical treatment, educational/vocational programs, and other ancillary services that support best practice for patients. > To promote medication assisted treatment as a viable treatment and best practice for opiate dependent persons. > To assist others in the provision of suitable standards of care for opiate dependent individuals.

The Central East ATTC has partnered with the Region III - Title X Family Planning Program to build capacity for five provider agencies to develop screening tools, provide targeted counseling and when appropriate, refer patients to treatment.

Virtual TA Session
The Motivational Interviewing - Into Practice series will provide a 20-hour curriculum that covers topics and provides interactive practice opportunities essential to the development and/or refinement of MI skills and relational style. Emphasis is placed on the “intentional use” of MI skills to identify a change goal, resolve ambivalence and increase motivation for change.
Virtual TA Session
The SbVC online learning series offers a unique interactive experience that provides shared consultation to professionals delivering counseling in an online environment. The course is structured to provide online consultation, skill-based learning and practice, group and self-study activities, reading assignments, and discussion on topics essential to providing services using videoconferencing mediums. Participants must have access to a computer, web camera, microphone and internet. *This series is being offered to Utah providers only.
This training was for the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Health. Attendees of this training will gain knowledge about Motivational Interviewing as a means of promoting behavior change. Those who attend this training will learn how to conduct a brief intervention for substance use disorders using motivational interviewing principles: such skills are expected to improve HIV treatment outcomes through improved treatment of co-occurring alcohol and drug use.
Dr. Morris recently worked with the Central East ATTC to update the Work and Wellbeing Guide. He will orient participants to the updated version, emphasize why self-care is essential for treatment professionals, and review strategies to do so. >> OBJECTIVES: * Provide an overview of the new wellness guide for addiction professionals. * Review common stressors addiction professionals experience. * Identify ways agencies can reduce stress in the workplace and support the well-being of employees. * Describe self-care approaches addiction professionals can use to increase their well-being. (This webinar was rescheduled from 9/24/2018.)
This event is a two-day event, with sessions on October 5 and October 19th. CEU will only be provided to those who complete both days. Clinical Supervision I is a prerequisite. This course include a one day review of the clinical supervision model presented in CS I with an opportunity for participants to discuss and verify any efforts to implement components of the model. Day two includes conducting a corrective interview; practicing a model of ethical decision-making; beginning a process of agency implementation of components of the model and self evaluating supervisory skills using the TAP 21 A.

This training is for providers who are a part of the Community Oriented Substance Use Program (COSUP). Attendees will gain knowledge and skills in assessment, screening, brief interventions, and referral to treatment for people with substance use disorders. After this training, attendees will be able to apply these skills to the care of their patients: such skills are expected to improve HIV treatment outcomes through increased detection and intervention of co-occurring alcohol and drug use disorders.
This is the third in a 4-part series: Overview of Screening and Assessments, Part 1 ** The Goal of this project is to provide a standardized set of trainings and supervisory supports to service-providing organizations that will: 1) improve outcomes for patients who have co-occurring disorders, 2) Improve organizational outcomes, staff morale and organization efficiencies, and 3) Provide "mentors" to increase the likelihood of students using the materials and using them correctly.

Trauma informed care is a practice framework that recognizes the presence of trauma and its impact, and how to effectively minimize its effects without causing additional trauma. This interactive course will define trauma and trauma-informed care, explore trauma & stress disorders and symptomology, look at how trauma impacts on brain development, and strategies to prevent re-traumatization.
Participants will increase awareness about sexual orientation, gender identity, and how personal biases impede care and ultimately identify how to develop an environment that is LGBT user effective.
This meeting will focus on the integration efforts that support a collaborative healthcare approach. Current medical updates in services for STIs, HIV, TB, and hepatitis, family planning, and addictions will be discussed. The presentation regarding opioids will discuss national and state trends in overdose deaths; multiple health implications and impact of opioid use and dependence; efforts to reduce the impact of the epidemic in Virginia; and effective evidence-based strategies to address the epidemic in multiple systems and care settings.
This Virtual Townhall is for anyone interested in fostering a supportive and vibrant community for people in recovery, including: People affiliated with recovery community organizations Members of National Association of Recovery Residences and the Association of Recovery in Higher Education; 12-Step recovery representatives; People from faith communities; Representatives from national associations of addiction treatment providers; Employees in state SSA offices or state recovery liaisons: Representatives from health care, law enforcement, and first responders

Face-to-Face Training
This course is an introduction to "Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT)" and is offered to participants in the Community Behavioral Health Collaborative. As a comprehensive, integrated, public health approach, SBIRT is used to identify persons with at-risk or problematic use of alcohol or illicit drugs before the onset of dependency. It can also be used to deliver referrals to treatment services for persons who may meet the criteria of a substance use disorder (SUD). This interactive training will discuss validated evidence based tools used in SBIRT, how to provide a brief intervention to modify risky substance use, and how to facilitate referrals to treatment services. The training is suitable for licensed clinical and non-licensed staff.

Compassion Fatigue is a state characterized by a gradual lessening of compassion over time. It is common among individuals that work directly with trauma victims such as nurses, psychologists, and first responders. However, sufferers can exhibit several symptoms including hopelessness, a decrease in experiences of pleasure, constant stress and anxiety, sleeplessness or nightmares, and a pervasive negative attitude. We find in the behavioral health arena it has a significant presence and can lead to negative outcomes for the helpers. Self-Care is all about learning how to take care of yourself and identify those issues that trigger you to act in a negative manner. This is where the real work begins
