Motivational Interviewing and SBIRT Training 2023

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is an evidence-based practice used to help people overcome their ambivalence about change.  In this interactive, skills-based workshop, participants will have the opportunity to learn about and practice the spirit of MI and both the relational and technical skills.

While there is a wealth of research supporting the positive impact on outcomes across a range of problem behaviors, a large part of the appeal of MI is its measurability. The MITI is a behavioral coding system that measures how well a practitioner is using MI. Feedback from the MITI coding system can be used to increase clinical skillfulness.

Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT) is an evidence-based method for reducing harm and improving outcomes for patients with substance use disorders. This SBIRT training will prepare participants to deliver SBIRT interventions in health care and other settings.

What is Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT)?

SBIRT is an evidence-based, cost-saving approach that health and human services professionals can use to help the people they serve reduce their drinking, drug use, and related health and social consequences.

The Great Lakes ATTC offers single-session and multi-day SBIRT trainings throughout the year. Participants are eligible to earn NAADAC CEs for successful completion of our SBIRT trainings.
