She currently works for the Puyallup Tribe’s Community Domestic Violence Advocacy Program, where she supports program goals to address violence and abuse impacting the community. These important issues partnered with personal experience and being the daughter of a long term missing person have inspired her to raise awareness for missing and murdered Indigenous people, prevention, and the healing power of culture. In 2016, in an effort to bridge gaps in media, services, and awareness, Carolyn created Missing and Murdered Native Americans; a grassroots volunteer organization focused on supporting families, awareness, prevention and advocacy.

The Mid America Addiction Technology Transfer Center is partnering with the Missouri Institute of Mental Health, the Opioid Response Network, and Saint Louis University to develop a new series in response to the rising needs of serving clients with Stimulant Use Disorder (StimUD). The purpose of the Treating Stimulant Use Disorder Workshop Series is to provide education on treating clients with StimUD. There will be 4 virtual workshops that are 1.5 hours each that will include presentations from national experts in the variety of ways to address assisting people diagnosed with StimUD into the recovery process. Nearly a third of all Americans have been affected by intimate partner violence (IPV) at some point in their lives. Health and behavioral health care professionals are well positioned to respond to cases of IPV. The trust within the provider and client/patient relationship offers opportunity to identify and support persons who may be victimized by IPV. This interactive webinar will review risk factors of IPV, screening tools for considerations, provider strategies for practice, and resources.

Group work provides several effective important steps that help break the isolation often experienced by the client. This training will provide information on how to use groups as a treatment strategy and will address why using Motivational Interviewing in a therapeutic support group format is extremely effective. The training will explore issues of interpersonal interaction in the group process, group norms, empathy, and how to use the group format to lower resistance.

This is Session 6 of a 12-session Intensive TA series beginning 7/19/21 and ending 10/18/21.  The New England ATTC in partnership with the Worcester Recovery Center and Hospital is hosting a series of Intensive TA consultation sessions with subject matter expert Myra Paull, LICSW.  This series begins on 7/19/21 and runs weekly for 12 sessions. The sessions build on current strengths that the staff have of facilitating groups for patients and discusses how to apply these skills to facilitating a consult group for their peers, in order to train new staff and provide oversight to existing staff to ensure fidelity to the curriculum. It can have an impact on personal finances, individual well-being, family and business relationships, employment, mental health, suicidal thoughts or attempts, and more. Compared to other addictive disorders, problem gambling (including Gambling Disorder) is associated with a high rate of suicide attempts. This session will offer a broad overview of problem gambling and its impacts. It will include an overview of gambling, recreational gambling, problem gambling, and Gambling Disorder. Information on how to pursue Gambling Counselor Certification will also be provided in the session. Learning Objectives: Understand the difference between recreational gambling, problem gambling, and Gambling Disorder. Recovery Ready Workplaces support their communities by recognizing recovery from substance use disorder as a strength and by being willing to work intentionally with people in recovery. Encourage a healthy and safe environment where employers, employees, and communities can collaborate to create positive change and eliminate barriers for those impacted by addiction. During this training, participants will learn about: The impact of substance use disorders in the workplace Potential barriers to employment The benefits of hiring people in recovery What is recovery? Language and stigma; Why words matter How to cultivate a recovery-ready workplace Who should attend: Mental health professionals; mental health advocates; mental health caretakers; behavioral health professionals; and the general public. All persons who interact with patients, which may include intake staff, reception area personnel, drivers, maintenance staff, as well as professional staff. Presenter: Andre Reid is the founder and president of Philadelphia's National Alliance of Medication Assisted Recovery (NAMA), an organization created to advocate for the expansion of MAT for people from diverse backgrounds and communities. Andre gains his knowledge from working at Philadelphia Office of Addiction Services in combination with his lived experiences which provides him a unique perspective on lack of equity in healthcare, socioeconomic benefits and community support.

In this video-conversation, participants will discuss the core components of this model and practice using the skills of Motivational Interviewing, particularly in the context of substance use behavior change(s). Prior knowledge of Motivational Interviewing is not required. This learning community is open to everyone engaging in conversations about behavior change - educational degrees or credentials are also not required.
