Engaging Families of Youth in SUD Treatment Learning Collaborative (Private Session)

This Learning Collaborative is by invitation only.

Getting families on board with treatment goals can make treatment more effective, but it can be challenging to get family members to come in to counseling and engage in positive behaviors. This learning collaborative will review research on the benefits of family involvement in counseling and help clinicians develop skills which will promote family participation in session to support treatment goals for youth. This entirely virtual course is divided into three sections:

1. One 4-hour large group lecture-oriented workshop, which will focus on how engaging families in treatment can be effective, ways it can be problematic, and methods for successful integration of family members in the treatment process. June 14, 2019, 9am-1pm.

2. One 2-hour small group workshop, which will provide participants a smaller venue to more easily discuss family engagement skills and practice using new tools. Participants will practice using the skills with the trainer present and ready to assist in real time.

3. Four monthly follow-up small group technical assistance meetings, which will help participants incorporate skills into their practice. Participants will have an opportunity to discuss ways they are trying the skills, and discuss methods of improvement. Topics include: family dynamic clinical presentations, how to deal with conflict, maintaining connection with your client, when to refer to family therapy, and more.
