Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a cognitive behavioral treatment that emphasizes individual psychotherapy and group skills training classes to help people learn and use new skills and strategies to develop a life that they experience as worth living. DBT skills include skills for mindfulness, emotion regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness. This workshop is an introduction to Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) intended for behavioral health professionals who wish to acquaint themselves with the treatment. The dialectical nature of DBT is explained via the balance between change-based technology (behavior therapy) with acceptance-based principles (validation). It highlights the structure of DBT and defines the modes and functions of comprehensive DBT.
